Getting Back in the Game/you'd want your head examined to referee a ladies football match

Two weeks ago I played the second half with a quad strain (another really fucking painful one) and had a great game. Then it completely disappeared.
I’ve never had a problem with hamstring before and then pop, it’s fucked, just like that.
It’ll get sorted, we’ll get back on the pitch and make another fucking idiot of myself.
I love football.

Turns out I didn’t tear the hamstring, but very painful all week. I was going to be out today but we had players down, so I said I’d sitnon the bench if we were desperate.
15 mins in our most useless bastard Stewart walks off as he was tired, poor baby.
So I ended up playing 45 mins on one leg.
Surprisingly played well and passed the ball really well including a beautifully weighted ball to split the defence for our super striker to run onto and score the first. We won 2-1 against a very good Wyong side.
2nd half their left back was noticeably tighter on me. We went into a tackle, I extended the leg and boom, hammy gone. 5 mins lying down on the sideline in pain followiled by 10 mins of our physio working on it
It’s just very tight, not pulled or torn, but could go any minute.
Long weekend coming up and we have two games to catch up on rain cancelled ones.
I’m under orders to be fit. I won’t be, it’s getting harder and harder to do this. But we go agaim and fuck the pain. Playing football in a team is the best thing ever.

Nothing ever replaces the feeling of team sport

Or a hammer going

“Under orders to be fit”. Must be some team of geriatrics.

First game of ball in 4 months last night. Kids football end of season coaches’ game followed by pints. Finishing was atrocious. Hobblingnlike an old fucker this morning. But it was glorious. Attempted nutmegs, backheels, gaa coaches trying to gaa a football match. Fucking lovely.

We were crowned League Champions (Minor Premiers) 3 weeks ago for the 3rd year in a riw in the 35’s.
Semi final today against a Kanwal team more interested in showing how hard they were than playing football. They ended up with 7 yellows and should have had 2 reds. Very hard to play football against them. We won 1-0 golden goal in the 2nd half of extra time.
I didn’t play today. We have 19 in our squad and only 16 can be available for a match
I’ve been shit this season so I volunteered to sit it out.
Playing with one eye is hard, my reaction tme used to be good but this year I’m really finding it hard.
But we have a lot of injuries from today so I’m definitely playing in the grand final on Saturday. I fucking can’t wait. I didn’t play, but I’m absolutely in awe of the commitment those blokes showed today and I want to be part of that.
Next year I won’t play with this team, I’ll drop down to the 45’s.
But still make myself available if this team wants me (there’s always an injury crisis at the start of the season).
I can honestly say I feel privileged to be part of this team.
Hopefully this time next week we’ll be having a party in Boz’s house.

Beautiful.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

What happened your eye?

I’m blind in my right eye.

We wonthe Grand Final on Saturday. 6-4
Mental game, we were 4-3 down with 15 left. Most goals we’ve conceded in a game in over 3 years.
About 6 of us will leave now and go to the 45’s, so the team breaks up. But 3 years, 3 League Champions in a row and 2 premiers. Unbeaten this season. Not bad.
Another 35’s team at the club won theirs on Saturday so The Grange in Wyoming was bedlam that night. I have no idea how I got home or what time. I think I sculled the trophy 6 times. It’s grand old team we play for…

Presume ye’ll walk the 45’s next year?
