Gigs coming up

I took the wife to see Andrea Bocelli last night in Cracovia’s ground. It passed an evening.

It would be ok to admit enjoying it. Bocelli is a superb performer.

He has a super voice but the whole set up around him was a bit plasticky. There were a couple of super classical guitarists doing a turn during the show.

Bought tickets for damo in porto this morning. 27sep. Superb

Was at Tony Bennett in the BGE tonight. Remarkable performance from the 87 year old. The voice was rough around the edges in quieter moments but when he needed to belt out a high note by jaysus, he could carry it off. I picked up a copy of the LP I Left my Heart in San Francisco for the princely sum of one pound in a bargain bin in a record shop on Sth William street years ago on a whim and I’ve been smitten by this performer ever since. Tony sang three songs off this album tonight. Wonderful. He rattled through a good 25 songs in an hour and a half, backed by an amazing jazz quartet. I felt a lump in my throat when he shuffled off at the end, knowing I’d never see him live again

The audience was a curious mix of the elderly, hipsters, ageing hipsters (like myself) and rough old wans from Sonny Knowles gigs in the Broadstone.

Went to ticketmaster to buy tickets and then realised my boy is 4 that day and we’re having a party for him.

(In case you’re wondering, I’m getting him a new bike)

Damo would approve. My own attendance will hang in the balance until closer to the date.

Morrisey is doing a gig here in some student club in november.

Playing the 3 Arena in Dublin as well I believe. I’d say tickets will be am astronomical price if his previous gigs are anything to go by.

60 for standing, I think Farmer. I think I’ll go.

Around 5o euro here.

Saw the Smiths in their pomp in the Savoy Cinema in Waterford (now the Book Centre) in 1984. I’d be afraid to go see Morrissey live since in case it would dispel that magical memory.

Lack of subsidisation by burger sellers

Saw him a few years ago in vicar street. The gap between the old and newer stuff is yawning.

Oh wow. Now that’s made me very jealous. http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-smiths/1984/savoy-waterford-ireland-1bd7d558.html

I saw Morrissey when I was about 19 and he was excellent. I think he’ll be even better this time with the new album being really good.

Of course the time to see him was around the Introducing Morrissey live DVD after Vauxhall and I was released…

They were supported that night by James and excellent local band the Village.

Did you have bootlegs available a couple of days later in the local second-hand record store?

A feature of going to concerts (in Dublin anyway - available from the guy on O’Connell Bridge or in the Sound Cellar on Wicklow/Exchequer Street) these days that I miss.

I remember those bootlegs well. The quality was atrocious.
