Giving to Charity

Agree absolutely. But like you say, the name is tarnished for a generation.
A new organisation is needed or an existing one to step into the breach.

Pieta house seems to be the go to charity for suicidal at the moment. Wind that console shit up and get pieta house to start similar services. It’d be a pain in the hole but it’s only them and the samaritans that seem trustworthy in that particular sphere. Or Bressie obviously.

Could we ask Bressie to takeover console on an interim basis?

He was so drunk he forget where he left it.

With so many fuckers out there, when shit like this happens all charities get a severe hit. I had a bit of dealing with both Pieta house and console around the time of the CRC shit and the people I was dealing with at the time all said that all fundraising was down and all activity was way down on the norm and they could only suspect it was due to that. I’d imagine the same thing will happen most charities now again this time around, particularly going on some comments in here too.

With regards to pieta house taking on Consoles role and services, they probably could, but they are already fairly stretched at what they do. Consoles main function was dealing with people left behind after someone died and pieta house is there to help people with the mental health issues. Bressie needs to get out and market things more. I dont think he is charging enough for his expertise right now.

Not sure i consider the likes of Pieta a charity in my traditional sense of it. Maybe i am looking at it wrong. But sure to fuck this should be state funded, heavily.

What are they other than a charity ?

The problem is the government has basically outsourced services they should be providing to charities.

Just the way i kinda see it. I realise its still a charity really.

World is fucked.

You also have multiple charities all fulfilling the same role and government funding all these separately without any joined up plan. There’s probably way too many charities in Ireland and some run by people who aren’t really capable of running them properly

Isn’t console really the only charity operating in this area. Maybe bressie or that Cork lass with the tats will see an opening here

give a little, helps a lot

Maybe they are, I just meant in general.

Ya way too many. And unscrupulous people taking advantage of our generosity, nature and passiveness. Just like the politicians, GAA, Denis o’ Brien etc

Don’t forget the cowboys in the waste collection business. Sometimes I think we are nothing but a nation of cowboys. Always out to screw someone

I firmly believe that. I think its everywhere but because of our size its more pronounced.

Being self emploted has been some eye opener. And in alot of cases its totally not needed. The cutting that goes on in my industry and related ones is off the charts. There is actually plenty work for everyone who is good if they all calmed the fuck down.

S&C the worst for it. Everyone other than themselves is an idiot and is doing it wrong .

You are not far off but i would throw in PT, Physios, GP’s, acupuncture etc. The whole lot.

It is very frustrating for S&C people who break their bollix seeing some army cunt with a 2 weekend PT Cert getting to train county teams, or the complete bluffer Cork City had last year who i would argue cost them the league. We all get thrown in with those cunts.

Physios are probably the worst, they have gone into full frontal attack on every other therapy and discipline now and the hypocisy of it all is their own trade is outdated and they do weekend courses and call tgemselves S&C and acupunturists and all sorts.

Basically its widespread as regulation is non existant.

There seems to be a number of local suicide charities in plenty of regions. Console used to eat into their target market so maybe some of the local ones might gain some more prominence now. Agree with @Gman though. The volunteers have been doing tireless work, but the cunts running the show should be taken out and shot

Bressie is a super guy. Had the good fortune to see him speak recently and I was very impressed. Great to see someone with a bit of profile speaking out on such a sensitive but important issue.

The CRC thing was a storm in a tea cup*. Kiely built that place up from a tiny operation to a place where thousands of people are helped annually.

It needs a top class CEO to run it and top class people need to be paid properly.

Similarly Rehab is a massive operation and no place for a mug at the helm.

*The pension payment may have been a tad excessive.
