Graeme Souness

Game recognise game

He started out as a centre half

But he (Gullit) was not known as a CB. At all.

You could put Gullit in any position on the field and he’d be one of the best in the World

He was at the time of publication.

No longer though.

A very close run thing between himself, Franz Beckenbauer and Billy Wright.

I’d go
1.Van Dijk
2.Hyppia
3.Terry
4.Carragher
5. Adams
6. Matip
7. Kompany
8. Carvalho
9. Vertonghen
10. Rio

And I can’t say much fairer than that

Probably doesn’t have the consistency over his career but Carragher’s performance in the 2005 Champions League final is up there with McGrath in Giant’s Stadium as the best ever.

Liverpool were 3 down at half time, he was part of a shambolic defensive performance

His team conceded 3 goals mate

An unbalanced midfield. Hamann came on to shore it up.

An immense performance from him and Sami that night. Didn’t they go to a three man defence with cult hero and champions league winner Djimi Traore from second half (after Limerick’s Steve Finnan went off injured)

You want thread banning for even mentioning Carragher here

Haaland rates Virgil van Great lad as the GOAT

The Liverpools have another thread gone

Maldini rates Big Virg lad as the greatest in history

As reported by Fabrizio Romano (via @LiverpoolFansBr): ‘I have played with some of the greatest defenders like Nesta, Baresi, Cannavaro but I feel I was unlucky not to pair with Van Dijk.

‘Virgil will be the best defender in history of football soon’.

Eh, he didn’t say that at all

Greatest he has faced. Not the GOAT
