The truth hurts Choco

Lots of mediocre players have scored at the world cup too runty. Larsson can hardly lay a claim to greatness for banging in goals against the likes of Dundee United.

Larsson = Great Striker

End of Story.

A few goals in whats now known in the the Europa league hardly makes Larson world class, never prove himself in a proper league.

To be honest I couldn’t care less about him but no, he wasn’t. Compare his record to Ronaldo’s record. A folk hero maybe but not a striker that can be ranked with the best.

Can’t argue with that. I remember looking up Van Basten’s stats a couple of years ago and being slightly disappointed by them. Having said that I think it was him and Batistuta that first sprung to mind.

Pippo Inzaghi hasn’t got a mention yet. I hate him but he’s probably the best goal hanger of recent times.

Papin was a spoofer… never produced outside of France.

Yeah - he came good later in his career, got a move to Milan and was shite.

We have forgotten George Weah in this. He was a class act.

Suprised theres no mention of Tonton Zola Moloko always banged 30 or 40 a season

Oh and Tony Yeboah he scored some crackers

2 that springs to mind, but hardly the greatest striker over the last 25 years!

Ronnie Rosenthal??

I’m pretty disappointed that Bandage would rather spend his afternoon defending that ponce Brian O’Driscoll than Henrik Larsson. Sums up Band-wagon-age for me.

 add Matt le Tissier to that list and Aidan McGeady.

I hugely rated Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at his peak. He was a goal machine. Banged them in in England and Spain.

He was good alright. Underrated in many ways.

Dont think we would have been going to the World Cup in 2002 if Van Gaal had played him up front. Brought him on right wing didnt he?

Patrick Kluivert was one who had it all but gave it up pretty quickly.

Dwight Yorke was the best striker Ive seen for Villa. He was another magical player at his peak.

Cant argue with Raul’s record either or his longevity. Bit sad that he was used as the example of proving noone was bigger than the team by Aragones missing out on the Euro success. A far superior player than Guiza and a few others in that squad.

Van Nistelrooy was an epic goal poacher too. Thierry Henry, Eto’o - we have lived in a bit of a golden age really.

Interesting that some would say Rush. This is a bit before my time but I read an article lately that suggested Liverpool’s downfall began with bringing Rush back. It seemed to suggest that Aldridge suited the team better particularly Beardsley and his goals record was better also. Article kind of focused on that Dalglish tended to focus on the past rather than the future and that Souness shouldnt solely shoulder the blame for Liverpool’s subsequent fall from grace.

That was just when I was getting into football seriously but Alridge was a class player for Liverpool. Rush was also excellent but they did lack something once they let Alridge go I thought.

Souness ruined Liverpool though. As someone said he took a hatchet to them when all was needed was a pruning scissors. His selling of Peter Beardsley for 1.1m and replacing him with Dean Saunders for 2.9m was the worst piece of management I ever saw. He also sold Houghton and Stauntion, both were Irish of course and the foriegner rule was in play which makes the decision to buy Saunders all the more bizarre.
