Have you ever seriously considered emigrating?

Yes. Best thing I ever did.

It’s insular, severely divided , racist, violent no matter where you go… 60/70% of people must be on some form of prescription medicine. Guns are legal. As a nation they are war mongerers and totally full of a warped nationalism thats tied up in their military. The culture is greed and ultra consumerism…

While there’s pockets of the states that are nice, I wouldn’t like to raise kids there.

Just saw there was another school shooting… A fucked up country indeed.

Ireland doesn’t have much of a military…

Superb thread. All it needs is @HBV to weigh in with some big dismissive remarks about ‘the Oirish’

Who?

That lad that who popularised monkey pus

Never really seriously considered it. But as I get older and after heading there a few times I’d have no bother moving to northern Italy. Good lifestyle and not too expensive compared to Ireland. Get a decent place around lake Como if possible.

I’m the same in Dublin.

I’d be working out of Gibraltar if I did it. Salaries are ok there. I wouldn’t be living there tho

Your passion for history is pretty obvious. Would you not consider teaching? I have said it to you previously, that you have the right personality for it. You could also move to another part of the country which is more affordable.

He could teach history in Longford, you’re really selling this.

Because it’s English speaking? A friend moved there recently for about a year and I’d back again. It’s a bit of a shithole in all fairness.

Fair point.

Not language, work. My line of work is rife there. I wouldn’t live there, I’d be 20-30 minutes up the road

Do teachers need to be Garda vetted?

Ah yeah, you would have a nice set up then in fairness. If you don’t mind working for a gambling company and can swing a job in Gibraltar, I’d do it for a few years at least for the experience. I’ve met a few folk doing the same. Once you’re away from La Linea, there are some lovely spots around there. Tarifa and just beyond have some stunning beaches, it’s cheap, and the food is great, and you get a bit of rain in the winter too from the Atlantic to keep it fresh.

Tarifa is lovely, go there regularly. We’d probably go the other way and nearer Estepona if we did it. Herself has a sister living there and her mother is 9 months of the year there… Anyway, it’s just thoughts for now.
