Holiday destinations for the accompanied traveller

Shannon flying to Madeira now. Interesting anyone been?

Yeah it’s class. One of the most scenic places I have ever been and really cheap. Some hilarious landings into that airport.

Very hilly and no real beaches so not that type of destination but the hiking is among the best I’ve ever seen. Mental roads.

Ya I only know of one person who went there and they couldn’t land with the wind got diverted to Portugal and missed half the trip trying to get back out

The runway is on stilts. There’s no flat land.

@Fagan_ODowd or other Francophiles

Have booked the ferry in July but nowt else

Have you ever been down Bicarosse direction. Looking at campsite options down there. Looks ideal aside from 8 hrs plus from rosscoff but I’d get over that

Nice beaches and massive network of cycle lanes

Additionally…if I was to break the journey to or from rosscoff where would you recommend? Iv been in la Rochelle and that would be ideal but leaves too far a drive to rosscoff

Iv also spent a few days in nantes which is more organised less halfway …would like somewhere different with a few bits to see over the day that the kids might enjoy…

Thanks in advance

That 8 hour drive will be 12 or 14 hours in real life when you take into account traffic and toilet and food stops. In reality you won’t do that in one day if you have children in the car. If you are pulling in to stay the night to break the journey the last thing you want is to try to navigate a big city. In that spirit La Roche sur Yon and the smaller Luçon are just off the motorway about half way through the drive. They are both nice and historic towns.

Leave some time on the way back for a couple of hours in Roscoff which is a grand spot particularly if you have youngsters

Cheers iv been in Rosscoff many times a smashing spot alright

Will have a look at those towns as options :handshake:

Am heading that direction at the end of June so can give you a report back then. We are flying to bordeaux and have 2 nights there before going down to La Rive campsite at the lake.

I went to Croatia so wasn’t really an option to bring my own car. Dose of a job trying to lug 10 litres of water a day back to the house :joy:

Yeah will hire a car in Bordeaux after we spend the couple of days in the city. The campsite isn’t within walking distance from the closest town so would be pretty isolated there. Also will give us a chance to explore around the region a little. It’s about an hour’s drive from Bordeaux.

The only thing worse than waking up in a condensation-ridden festival tent during one’s precious annual leave as a mature adult with money, is opening the tent flaps to see chronic levels of sagging, cellulite, British -registered RV’s and a communal toilet. An alternative to this self-flagellation, and a recommended opt-out would be AirBnB.

Is it a case of a subconscious feeling of not having suffered enough?

You can’t beat having the car alright. Loads of cycle paths in area too if kids old enough for that

We go again

Ah yes, the breakfast of champions… a pint of Heineken with some seed oil mayo and high-fructose ketchup at 6am. Have you a will made?
