Holiday destinations for the accompanied traveller

Columbus’ tomb is in the Cathedral. Plaza Espana worth a stroll. A bit of one of the Star Wars films was filmed there. Alhambra for a day trip is a good shout.

Gentlemen

The cinema kills a few hours

CƔdiz is an hour and a half away by train from Seville and well worth a visit. I put away an absolute belter of a day in the central market there just ateing and dranking, tipping along from stall to stall.

We’re going via Carcassonne. The site lay on a paid for transfer so its handy enough.

We only went to the beach one evening but it didn’t look the safest for going into the water. There might be better spots than where we were.

There’s a nice strip of restaurants facing onto the beach too.

The classic TFK travel tip. You are going to visit City X? Get the fuck out of it as soon as you can.

Main attraction, Real Alcazar, is worth a visit although it gets big crowds right from opening time, buy tickets online beforehand and try and enter first thing when it opens. Loads of beautiful old fashioned tapas bars in the Santa Catalina or Feria districts, the architecture is beautiful around there, much nicer than the touristy streets down by the cathedral.

Unusual attraction called the Setas might be worth a look for good city views at night, raised wooden walkway costs about €16 to visit.

On a 5th class school tour they took us from the Southside of Cork City to Bunratty, Cragganowen and Shannon Airport all in one day,
Craganowen was my favourite but we robbed every gift shop blind

Bunratty is great. It shows the Klares in their natural environment.

Majorca booked for the last week in April. Digs in Puerto Alcudia, but I’ll be driving. Favorite forum eating spots on the island? I’ve been a few times so familiar-ish with the place.

Have in my mind to head for Naples for a few days in September. But got into conversation with someone who was there was saying it’s a kip. I’m sure a few of you gents have been there, what did ya’s make of it?

I liked Naples, it’s grit is appealing. Not sure how good it’d stack up to some other destinations for a few days, but it’s a good base for a 7-10 day trip, if you’re renting a car. I initially chose Napoli because my favorite coffee roaster, Passalaqua has their base there. They’re open to the public. I visited Vele di Scampia, the block of flats from Gomorrah, in the dead of night, of course, much to the alarm of my fellow travelers. There was also a small village, full of abandoned mansions once populated by holidaying elites and aristocracy which is now squatted by illegal sub Saharan African immigrants. It’s definitely an experience that I’ve never felt before on this continent. Fairly wild after dark. I never visited the football stadium as it was the height of the pandemic, or Capri as I was not aware of it’s beauty, and proximity. I was in a short depressive episode whilst at Pompeii, and referred to it ā€˜as a load of ol stuff’ but my vision was coloured, and I would say it was probably genuinely good. Amalfi coast is close, and beautiful, and I only had my driving license for three months at that point and found the concentration needed on the roads a big ask for a novice. I could probably attain a top 10 finish in the circuit of ireland rally after that experience, and of course Rome is there for a road-trip to the north. I was angry that the rental company gave me a Peugeot instead of the Luxury Merc I thought I was getting and was comfortably hitting 180k on the motorways and became a fan of the brand as a result. Jesus, this was a self-indulgent post. The place is famous for three people riding on a moped. The city has little in the way of Italian beauty, but I’d probably go back again sometime

No no, exactly what I’m after, cheers pal :+1:t2: think I’ll go ahead with it and do a bit more research on places to see and go.

Did it there last year for a few nights, it is definitely not a picture-postcard spot but there is an authentic feel to it. Loads of tourist traffic regardless. We hit out into the Bay of Naples island-hopping for the rest of it. Procida is a beautiful little spot that gets ignored for the most part, Ischia is bigger and has a bit more to it, they’re probably a bit more value than going down the Capri/Sorrento side of the bay. I’ll go back again sometime for sure

Capri Sorrento… Would it be far from the airport?

Off the top of my head; I’d probably ferry out from Naples to Capri and come back via Sorrento by public transport or whatever. I’d prefer to be able to indulge in a glass here and there rather than be trying to focus on Italian rally-driving. I’ve driven in other parts of Italy but everyone says it’s another level around that part.
