Holiday destinations for the lone traveller

4 months and I’d be into trekking alright

Ya heading there tomorrow from Panama via San Blas. Anything off the beaten track I should look into?

Presume you’re going to Santa Marta and seeing the lost city and parque Tayrona? There’s another great beach to go for day called playa Angeles that’s pretty empty.

I stayed in a village called salento in the coffee region too, beautiful. Great hiking and biking. You can stay on a coffee farm.

Learn a bit of Spanish. Even a grasp of a few basics will improve your trip no end. I bought a few of those Learn Spanish CDs and learned a bit driving around before I went.

I’ve only been to the southern end. Patagonia is class. If you have time I’d recommend Torres del Paine (check that it is right season and shelters, etc are open) and El Chalten. Bariloche is a nice base for a few days hiking.

Go to a Boca Juniors match in Buenos Aires. Internal flights were fairly affordable when I was there. Willl save a lot of travelling time.

Ya have planned to head up to Santa Marta, thanks for the tips.

Hadn’t thought of doing the coffee farm stuff but might consider it now.

The dreamer hostel is great. Look up the coffee farm hostel on salento, great place to stay. Plan to stay a night or two at Tayrona, it’s unreal, get directions to one of the better beaches though.

Ya I plan to do maybe a week of classes next week when I get to Colombia.

Ya really like the look of Torres Del Paine, hopefully I’ll have the time to get that far south.

Will definitely try and pick up a game somewhere along the way!

Hadn’t really planned to spend much time in Brazil, but if the mouse recommends it

Ya it sounds class up there, staying a night on the beach sounds class alright.

Depends what you’re at mate and who you are with… Rio is a great city, just don’t wear any bling. The north of Brasil is class and plenty of jungle…the southern half from Rio down is more beaches and party type towns.

Go to nazca in Peru. Most people seem to skip it but it’s cool and the nazca lines are one of the most amazing things you’ll ever see. Also, you can do a package tour from la Paz where you get a flight out to the pantanal (jungle) and stay out there a few days. Well worth it.

How much would flights to Colombia set you back, 800?

find a hostel in bogota with decent wifi and throw your heart and soul into the segunda

Patagonia is a must if it’s the right time of year. Was in El Chalten for 4 days and was blessed with absolutely faultless weather. I could have stayed there for months. Never made it Torres del Paine but I’ll be going back.

The Atacama is another one I would recommend, particularly if you can rent your own 4x4 and drive yourself around it. Like being on the face of another planet.
