Humphries on the Cork saga

Depends on the county. A Wexford GAA player will strike across the hand of your free taker. A Clare player will strike with the butt of the hurley through the face guard.

let it go runty :smiley:

Isnt that what fijian hurlers do?

Runty did you never see Clem Smith or Mike ‘the butcher’ Houlahan hurl?

apparently the CCB backed up GMC this evening

I think its rubbish. But there you go.

Fucking ejit got his hair done before Plastic Sheeting interviewed him too.

Vote of Confidence passed 83 to 13 or something like that.

“The Butcher” was one of those ironic nicknames pukey.

No point calling him the hurler as he wasn’t even related to one :stuck_out_tongue:

i thought he was a great bit of stuff

And did you have any opinions of him as a hurler?

Don’t mind Puke. Serious hurler. Would love to have a player like him in the squad now.

What was all that white stuff over Teddy McCarthy’s arse on the news just now? I hope it was chalk or something.

“2009 Cork senior hurling panel in shocking cocaine fueled training session. On lookers say they even saw players snorting it off Teddy Macs ass. This has been unconfirmed as yet.”

Oh hurling, fuck it i thought we were on about…night.

Don’t ever remember anyone calling him the Butcher. We prefer Iron Mike or indeed Arnie out our way. Call into his pub some time pukey and take a look at the Two All stars behind the bar. Pity there is no Celtic Cross to join them but there you go. Was at a league game up in Galway years ago, heard Iron Mike being described by a Galway man as “the meanest man in Limerick”. A compliment.

fair dues to Gerald, all and sundry and a few round here yesterday were proclaiming this would end in favour of Donal and Sean this week. I couldn’t possibly have more respect for the man.

Is it fair to say now that this is over? The former players meet the club chairmen this weekend but is it true nothing can come from it? The clubs spoke again last night, and voted overwhelmingly in favour of Gerald, there is nowhere left for the GPA lads to turn apart from upping the pressure on the current panel and hoping they walk away.

Farrells comments yesterday surely is the beginning of the end for the GPA, Croke Park must have blown their collective loads at hearing it. Poor Dessie has cut his own throat.

Going to be very hard for the players to come back from this alright.

Caoimhin probably knows this better but I must say the overwhelming vote in favour of GMC by the delegtes does not reflect what I am hearing from Cork.

I said this here before but the tipping point appears to be about 50, the over 50s appear to be on favour of GMC, under 50s backing the players, particularly fellas involved in teams themselves.

So maybe the issue us that the power within the clubs lies with long established members who have reached positions of power after many years involvement (not unreasonable situation) and that they do not reflect the younger members views, and are able to carry any debate at club level due to their seniority.

Just playing devils advocate here because I can understand GMC winning the vote, he does have a lot of support in Cork, but I think to say he has approx 88% of the support is completely off the mark.

I know that my old fella, mother and sister have all canceled there county board draw subscription that they have for years and years because of the way this thing has been handled by the CB. And they would not be 100% behind the players or anything like it. By all accounts a shed load of my club members have done the same, this will hit the CB hard in the pocket as that draw is some moneyspinner.

Think the players should just call it quits now though and walk away with a bit of dignity, and while they still have some respect left amongst the general public. If the footballers go out as well it is a disaster.

The fallout from this will be nuclear, I dont think the effect it will have on the playing base and rank and file club members can be underestimated.

there are obviously liars in Cork. People are saying the clubs are behind the players. Club representatives have voted for GMC. So either the players who say the clubs behind them are lying, or the delegates are lying in their vote saying their club is behind GMC. For over 88% of the vote, its hard to see how nearly every club delegate could be corrupted. The whole thing stinks, and I know I’m getting fed up of it completely at this stage.

Bandage said it earlier about due process, and if the payers were unhappy with GMC, they should have done all this months ago and had their voting done months ago. Why wait til he is appointed and then go on strike? They have done it all backwards. And why would the Board do things ‘to spite the players’? What is the county board gaining by having GMC as manager and the players being unhappy? Maybe is it just a power thing and they want to reaffirm that they are in charge?

The clubs, the heartbeat, the bread and butter of the GAA have voted (AGAIN) in an astounding majority for Ger Mac last night. 84-13. How many more ways, how many more meetings before the players realise it.

The crux of the issue is that still yet the clubs haven’t been given anything to vote on or discuss. That vote last night means fuck all. Our club has discussed it, but we didn’t know Ger Mac was speaking last night until yesterday, and no club was told to vote on a vote of confidence. So it means nothing really. Until such time as there is a clear mandate for clubs to vote on, and they get a week to vote on it, then we don’t have a true idea of whats thought at the clubs. No motion whatsoever was discussed last night, and i know there was several proposals put in. More CB games. Why was it yesterday that everyone found out Ger was talking. Clubs could have put forward questions or whatever.

If there is a mandate, and it is defeated in favour of Ger and the lads, then thats the end of it, but that hasn’t happened lads.
