Hunting & other rural pursuits

A magnificent victory for my beloved Comhaontas Glas earlier. Fuck the lot of ye.

some craic going on here and for once the ff backbenchers have been well outshone by the labour boys.
labour opposed the bill today, they are all on record in very recent times as follows,

Eamon Gilmore, TD (Leader of the Labour Party): “I am opposed to the blood sports of badger baiting, cock fighting, dog fighting, hare coursing and stag hunting.”

Tommy Broughan, TD: “I remain opposed to all so called blood ‘sports’”

Joe Costello , TD: “I am opposed to all blood sports…The legislation is silent on blood sports…We must address the bloodsports issue in Ireland. We have touched on it from time to time but we have never dealt with it seriously, either in terms of coursing, fox hunting, stag hunting or badger baiting or hunting, nor have we addressed the considerable cruelty attached to the manner in which it is done and the way the animal is treated both in the hunt and in the killing.” (Speaking as a Senator in 16th November 2000).

Liz McManus, TD: “I support a ban on live hare coursing, carted deer hunting and a tightening up of regulations on fox hunting.”

Michael D. Higgins, TD - Michael D Higgins is a former vice-chairperson of the Irish Council Against Blood Sports

Jan O’Sullivan, TD: “I will allow you to add my name on to the list of T.D.'s who do not support bloodsports”

Emmet Stagg: In 1993 - “The Labour Party commits itself to working with any other political party in Dail Eireann to bring about an end to hare coursing and other so-called field sports. It is imperative that the Irish Council Against Blood Sports continue their campaign and that people highlight in the media the barbarity of this activity. Only through a campaign of protest can we bring enough pressure on the Government and political parties to ban hare coursing. I wish this and future protests every possible success. Again, on behalf of the Labour Party, we will assist this campaign in every way possible.” In 2010 - I see “nothing wrong with stag hunting”

Pat Rabbitte, TD: “I do not support bloodsports”

My point is that this has nothing to do the well being of the deer. It’s all about giving a sop to the tie-dyed freaks in Ringsend. The stag hounds were a soft touch because there’s only one of them and so their fate was sealed. A disgusting stunt all round and an unbelievable sell out by Fianna Fail. They will pay for this in every constituency in the country among field sport enthusiasts.

It has no relation to the stag hunt really. I just learnt the number the other day and wanted to share it with you fine folk.
There would be no basis for saying the Ward Hunt helps controll the deer population.

Will Liam Cahill still be receiving his fee?

They might decide to hunt him instead

So did this bill include the dog breeding one or is that next week?

The wider issue is what kind of retard thinks it’s interesting to ride around on a horse chasing deers.

This is from a word document available on the RISE website, under ‘Guidelines for Meeting Politicians’

RISE! Rural Ireland Says Enough!
www.risecampaign.ie

Guidelines as to what we want supporters to say when you meet your TDs and Senators

• State the reasons why you believe rural field sports and other similar pursuits should not be under threat from any proposed legislation.
• Remember the politician you will be talking to will be voting on these issues so try to get him or her to buy into the campaign’s aims.
• There are three main questions we want them to answer:

 1. Do they support the RISE! campaign?
 2. Will they vote against any ban on the Ward Union Hunt?
 3. Would they support a free vote on this as a matter of conscience?

• The best way to approach politicians:

 1. Stick to the messages and arguments in our Core Briefing Document
 2. Don’t use aggressive language. They will just ‘circle the wagons’
 3. Be measured in your tone. Don’t whinge.
 4. Mention your support for legal and democratic process
 5. If you require a sample letter for politicians please contact the Campaign Office.

Core Briefing Points

• Defense of rural life – current policies are attacking local communities.
• No need for a change - most field sports are already regulated (with no problems) under current laws so why change that?
• A free vote gives every side a chance to make their case and be judged fairly
• Healthy outdoor pursuits
• Family oriented activity - everyone from the very youngest to the very senior take part together.
• Economic value (regional and national) – various studies show the huge economic positives from rural pursuits.
• Supporting farming and bloodstock industries
• Supporting tourism
• Conservation - who will do this in the future and at what cost?
• Community involvement – every area of the community will be hit.
• Tradition and heritage – field sports go all the way back into ancient history and folklore with some hunts being among the oldest organisations in the country.
• Government priorities – is banning stag hunting more important than fixing our economic crisis?

What a bunch of scam artists

deer Bandage, deer

+1 dressing like the 17th century landed gentry is gay

the inevitable coclusion is these outdated rural pursuits will be banned as urban people are agaist them

Looks reasonable enough to me, WTB.

Where’s the scam?

That’s next week.

+1

An orchestrated campaign by the tally ho brigade, masquerading as a grass roots campaign. Scumbags.

More than likely thats what they are WTB they made a complete balls of it too, so after the dog breeding bill, I’d imagin hare coursing will be next followed by the live export of cattle followed on by horseracing, show jumping and greyhound racing if they have time

As someone who hails from rural parts, I’ve never really understood how any of these activities survived the invention of telelvision.

double post

you’ve unwittingly hit the nail on the head.

the 31k figure quoted above is based on the legal no. of deer culled, a process which involves, among other things, the signature of the minister of the environment.
if that’s the legal no, what’s the illegal no. of deer culled? (and how many of them are down to Link?)

gormley has yet to address this, and until he does, his act of banning the staged hunt of a stag picked from the ward union herd (and subsequently released back to the herd, assuming the hunt is successful) will be open to claims such as SS** made, that this bill is mere window dressing, a sop to the more extreme wing of the party.

P.S. the “problem” exists because there are no real natural predators of deer in the country (drunk KK men excepted) since the wolf population died out
one other factor is that a large proportion of the irish deer population were introduced to the country, (presumably for hunting?) which distorts the figures
