Hurling All-Stars 2013
Anybody who knows anything about defending knows that McInerney has just had two excellent matches, to go with the great games he had up to the AI.

The guy should be a stone cold cert on the All Star team. The guy is a very intelligent player and hard as nails to boot.

Regarding Nash, leaving aside his scoring, his goal keeping wasn’t particularly better than the other two leading contenders and in the drawn match, he was part of a puck out strategy that was destroyed. Do you place a lot of value on his free taking? I do, but have a nagging feeling about rewarding his approach to 21s. On balance, he should get the all star.
Nash made a number of brilliant saves this year. From memory more than any other keeper. His other stuff is a bonus.

Again this is short term memory, but the only goal I’d question was McGraths in the replay. I felt Nash reacted late.

Cusack gave him MoTM for the Limerick game. Wasn’t @Mac waiting on a Tony Kelly or Podge Collins bet?

Richie McCarthy biggest claim to an All Star is he beat Eoin Kelly in a foot race in a game. He was in all sorts of trouble v Harnedy in the first half of the Munster final. He was v uncomfortable v Clare’s pace in the semi despite having a spare man on his shoulder. He was caught out of position for the Clare goal. The guy just doesn’t have the pace for this level. From a Cork pt of view I’d be gutted if SO’N miss out because he been good enough to win one over the last no of yrs but denied by the fact that this team have been generally crap. If he was to miss out let it be the likes of Paul Murphy or Peter Kelly. But Richie McCarthy! Someone please pass the sick bucket.

I think he may have been partially unsighted by a defender in front of him. I was right behind the angle of the shot and that’s how it looked anyway. Doubtful if he would have saved it anyway though as it was so well placed.

Strange method of attempting to do so by incorrectly stating McInerney was cleaned out in the drawn final itself.

There may not be a difference in tv coverage but not seeing any game live will make a difference alright. I think I saw every team bar Waterford and Offaly in the flesh at least once this year.

Did you see Westmeath? There’s some great work being done in hurling circles*, down there, or so I hear.

I didn’t. My apologies to the proud hurling people of Westmeath, who are doing great work. I didn’t see Laois either.

The whole Clare back line was cleaned for those goals. Don’t forget 3 blatant take downs as well, one leading to a goal.

David McInerney wasn’t cleaned out. He was in the process of cleaning out Luke O’Farrell. You can keep stating the contrary and you’ll still be completely wrong.

They were all cleaned out.

No, they weren’t all cleaned out.

Tony Kelly

Suggesting that Shane O’Neill shouldn’t get an All Star because he got away with a couple of dirty strokes is the type of argument a woman would make.

It’s bananas. And it’s just Lunerick lads real using they’ll get nothing and throwing in the hard luck story already.

I’m guessing you didn’t see Carlow either.

Saw them in the Gaelic grounds in the league. Was chatting with some very sound Carlow men that travelled down for the game. Apparently if “Styler” had been three years younger he would have buried the goal chance near the end and Carlow would have had a famous victory.
