Hurling All-Stars 2013

Martin Brehenys team of the year:
Nash
Kelly, McCarthy, McInerney
Bugler, Rushe, Murphy
Galvin, Donnellan
Harnedy, Kelly, Sutcliffe
Collins, Horgan, McGrath

Canā€™t much argue with it except that Moran should be in ahead of Murphy at wing back, or ahead of one of the midfielders.

I wouldnā€™t be pinning your colours to a Brehenys mast.

I just said Iā€™d agree with most of his pick, Iā€™m not swearing allegiance to him.

Hereā€™s a nicer version of it:

That is nicer in fairness @TreatyStones.

I hate this moving players around to give them an award. Peter Kelly should not be there at corner back.

Agreed, either you were the best in your position or you werent, simplesā€¦

Unless youā€™re someone like Tony Kelly who excelled in numerous positions during the championship.

There are no set positions in the modern game. It requires flexiblity, the All-Stars awards should reflect that.

Or David McInerney or Pat Donnellan or Conor Ryan who all excelled in more than one position

I tend to agree. But hurling has changed, players mark forwards, forwards move around. Everyone has to be a right corner back, a full back and a left corner back. As well as requiring super athleticism.

The likes of Brian Lohan and get Cushe would struggle last Saturday night.

Itā€™s slightly unfair, but I think you have to pick the 3 best full back ā€œlineā€ men.

Kelly did not have a better year than O Neill though.

Donā€™t think Brian Murphy can be ahead if Moran with. I think Moran HAS to be somewhere.

Yeah but they are both in their 40s now though so youā€™d expect that.

Typical drab KK humour.

There is only one man for the number 3 shirt. The Wexford fullback was outstanding. His injury v clare cost wexford the all ireland.

Iā€™d be of the view that Lohan is the one guy from the 95 time who would transfer very easily to the current Clare team.

Jamesie?

Of course he would. You need to remember that kev hasnā€™t a clue when it comes to hurling

Yeah, obviously others would too, but Lohan is the one guy I feel who would dominate at this type of game. In fairness to him, he would probably dominate in most eras.

Lohan was a beast, he would have excelled in any era.

Maybe heā€™d suit an O Farrell or Horgan who hang around a lot. Some of the movement of others would kill him.
