Hurling All Stars

That was really the one that got away from a Galway point of view. Mark O leary got 2 goals that day and did nothing before or after. Did he have 3 touches in the game. We probably peaked for the semi final. Broderick and Rabbitte were well held that day. Did Leahy do his cruciate earlier that season or am I off with my years?

Limerick remind me of Chelsea. When JP gets bored or the ryder cup starts to take his focus they will revert to type.

Did it against Clare below in Cork.

Limerick are an outstanding team. There is no debating that.

I wouldnā€™t be of the opinion individually they are deserving of All Stars in some of the positions argued for is all.

Hurling All Stars

JP will probably want to improve facilities on his golf course well before 2027 and get that bypass around Adare sorted so I predict around 2023/2024 itā€™ll be another 30 years before a Limerick hurling team is taken serious again. His son out of nostalgia will inherit the mantle from his father as being chief benefactor and try and revive Limerick again. Theyā€™ll win another 1 then in 2055.

Lynch didnt look as flash this year. I think heā€™s cut down on the self indulgent stuff a bit. He still throws out the odd ridiculous stuff but he isnt trying it as often and if anything his work rate and tackling is gone through the roof.

Hes the ultimate team player now. He occupies the opponent because he has to be watched. Heā€™ll always look for a fella in a better position and heā€™ll win ball he has no right or reason to win. Heā€™ll tackle and turnover as well.

He is Limericks best player

Great post look at the trajectory of him and Gleeson from those minor teams that had great battles in 2013 Gleeson to me still plays like back then you still get the odd Hollywood scores and flashes every now and then but Cian is now an ultimate team player and has the work rate to match which I wouldnā€™t say of Gleeson on a consistent basis.

Lynch didnā€™t score in the final but did a rake of donkey work.

Caught one great ball in the second half, the score was on for himself but he laid it off to Tom Morrissey in an ocean of space who clipped it over. Totally unselfish but incredibly effective.

Heā€™s won it two times, you knowā€¦

Hannon is the one who will lose out in the all star. You could argue the fact that he maybe had a quiet enough championship. Thought he was immense against Clare and Tipp. But after that Waterford x 2 and Galway identified him as our main distribution threat to the inside forwards and tried to nullify him by playing the ball up the wings. Part of the reason why Byrnes and Hayes are nailed on for an all star.

Yeh, on the face of it you could say that Hannon and Lynch didnā€™t stand out much this year but teams focusing on them allowed more leeway for Byrnes, Hayes, Hegarty and Tom.

If you compare to 2018, it was often different players who stepped up this year.

Byrnes, Hayes, Hegarty and Tom Morrissey (along with Finn) were probably our four best players this year and none got All-Stars two years ago. :man_shrugging:

Hannons role has always been a holding one. Not a sweeper but still tasked to watch whatā€™s coming up the middle and hoover up between the full and half back line particularly any loose ball. Head up and down into both corners. As I said before, toward the latter stages of the championship he was identified as the fulcrum and opposition decided to go down the flanks in order to curb his influence. Byrnes and Hayes hovered it up. Hannon did nothing wrong. In fact itā€™s a compliment to the man

Tom M deserved one 2 years ago for his goal in the final and pulling the game out of the fire against KK I was seething at the time I thought he was going nowhere after the U21 campaign in 2017 its beyond belief the player heā€™s turned into.

He was captain in 17. Didnt suit him

If you look at my post after yours my reckoning is that both Waterford and Galway tried to take Hannon out of it by using the wings. Up stepped the two lads beside him and the rest is history.
