Hurling All Stars

Burke was well restricted for past 2 months. Going for an ankle operation this week from what I heard.

You could hardly blame Burke for any of the goals in the final. Three times Galway men were turned over in possession close to goals. Its hard to be organised when there is chaos all round you.

They’ll surely throw Galway a sympathy one.

Is the list above fair to Waterford?

Bennett, and De Burca for certain. Barron should get one.

Barron wasn’t great. Got on a lot of ball in every game but kept running into pressure and turning it over. Calum Lyons unlucky

Lyons had a good year, but its a tough half back All Star line to get into this year.

Could they stick him in at left corner back?

Personally I think O’Keeffe is a better keeper than Quaid, but I wouldn’t begrudge Quaid his award now. O’Keeffe is the only keeper in the country that when Hayes burst through on Sunday I’d have thought, there’s every chance he’ll save this. I couldn’t believe he saved the follow up and got the ball out of the danger zone.

Otherwise Ozzie had a really good year, but he loses out because the rest of the forwards are too good to leave out.

Both very good shot stoppers, but the puck outs are a huge part of the goalkeeper role. Quaid is ahead of the competition in that regard.

Quaids puck outs appear good, but then if I were pucking out onto those giants, I’d probably hit about 90% also.

Quaid is phenomenal. He’ll never get the credit he deserves.

A bit of poetic licence to get Calum Lyons in. Didn’t think it was a stellar year for Barron.

Is O’Donoghue more deserving than Lynch?

Conor Prunty deserves a mention too.

Gillane and Conor Whelan in with a shout upfront too.

You would think so, seen as Galway gave Limerick a game at least.

Quaid was essentially flawless throughout the championship with a patched together full back line. An easy selection for me.

O’Keeffe was the best of the rest but had some mistakes along the way e.g. goal vs Clare

I don’t think Limerick will get a midfield all star. Will does a lot of donkey work and Lynch played a bit in the forwards. O’Donovan didn’t do enough.

Barron will get one even though he didn’t have a stellar year by his standards in my opinion and they’ll probably give one to Tony Kelly in midfield as a cop out and clear space inside for Concannon or someone

They’ll give one to joe canning.

There’ll probably be a changing of the guard in the next two or three years.

A lot of great players should be finishing up in that time frame - Pat Horgan, Padraic Maher, Joe Canning, TJ Reid.

The void is left then for others to fill. You’d imagine in the next 6 or 7 years, injury permitting, the likes of Coleman, Fitzgibbon, Kyle Hayes, Adrian Mullen, Eoin Cody, Conor Whelan et al will become the dominant players of that era.

Galway did a lot better against Limerick than Waterford did.

Hurler of the year ?
