The naming of all of these good players started with posters naming ex county players sons as the second coming of brilliance…I countered that we have possibly much better talent coming through who are not related to household names…of course the Years will decide all these things it’s just guessing at this point. Anyone with a few Hours to spare could do worse than go to some of the inter county tournaments at the Weekend…it’s a joy to watch good youngsters hurling.
Yes, answer the question. If you are so very interested in my opinion, why do you not arrange to meet me and ask the question in person? That approach is the one most normal civilized people adopt. Any particular reason you departed from it?
Do you want to tell me your name and your club and I will meet you at one of your club’s upcoming juvenile games? No problem. Otherwise, you see, you come across as an anonymous coward on the internet.
As it happens, I am at lots of juvenile games, as anyone who knows me knows. So why is it important for you to imply I am not?
I know your agenda. But most people on here would not.
The clear answer here is that you are badly rattled at being exposed for not attending underage games in Kilkenny at any level and your seething over it at this point…I go to a huge number of underage games in Kilkenny and I can never recall seeing you at one.
If we are going to be having this face off it’ll have to wait until next Year’s Inter county league or maybe the county semi final…Ballyhale Shamrocks should make it in fairness…
Wel talk then
Sorry, only saw this question now, for some reason…
CC obviously was a terrific hurler. Above all, he seemed able to impose his will on a game at certain times. But I would not think, technically and otherwise, CC would be at the level of the 15 hurlers I picked on that XV.
I met Kevin Cashman in person just the once. Highly memorable day, back in May 2007. I took him out to dinner in Cork and we had plenty of wine. Had a long discussion with Kevin about the best hurlers. I put it to him about writing that CC was a better hurler than DJ Carey. Did he still hold that opinion? He grimaced and conceded in the end that he did not. He just had never liked DJ Carey (and the same man must be tightly smiling at recent news on that front).
Huge variety in the type of score there and in some massive games. Athleticismwise, there were a few Tony Kellyesque scores in there when he is just rounding lads with ease, to go along with the fetching and the hurling.
I am “badly rattled” for getting “exposed” for not going to juvenile matches…
You have some idea of yourself. I have a right wing fuckwit in Galway not able to sleep at night because I like picking mushrooms – did not post yesterday about finding more chanterelles in case he goes into complete meltdown – and now I have you, someone who supposedly has never seen me at a juvenile match in Kilkenny. I suppose the level of obsession I inspire should frighten me but instead just flummoxes me. The one “badly exposed” is yourself, as any normal person could see. You should ring Fossetts for the start.
I do not really believe you are in Kilkenny. I think you are in Holland, because of the tulip factor. But I will simply leave people to have a think themselves. Delude yourself away. You are giving great amusement here in a fashion your actual opinions never could.
You will not ever be talking to me, for two reasons.
His footwork… His ability to get off a powerful stroke while leaning backwards, while hampered by his own body weight, as per the goal in 2010 AIF, a masterpiece forgotten because Kilkenny lost.
Ciarán is revered in Limerick. Almost mythical. That can sometimes cloud the judgement of him locally. Always interesting to hear the opinions of others on him.
I don’t think you’ll find anyone in Clare for example who’d have him ahead of Seanie at 6 or in the middle over Lynch or Baker, whereas as on this side of the border we’d play him in all three if we could.
If Limerick made it over the line in the 90s and won one I think the conversation changes significantly in his favour. Winners and history and so on.
Regardless, a terrific hurler and a great man. Your point about his will is bang on the mark.
Thanks very much. I enjoyed reading your reply, which is the reason I bother with TFK, even in the teeth of the bizarre stuff that comes my way.
The point you make about whom CC would have to supplant to get on that 1990s to 2010s team is naturally the key one. CC would only be considered in the half back line or at midfield. He was consistently terrific but I do not think there is a plausible case for CC ahead of Brian Whelahan, Seánie McMahon, JJ Delaney, Michael Fennelly and Ken McGrath. Nub of matter. To be honest, if Limerick had won in 1994, as they really should have done, I would be of the same opinion.
