I just want to know where has our pride gone? We are gutless as a nation and feel more angered when our material goods are threatened than our national spirit, or heritage. We have history of producing men and communities who have stood up for their beliefs but that’s long gone. We produce gutless rats now. +1. Most western countries have followed the same path of materialism. Many developing economies look to be heading the same way.
What country should we look towards for inspiration?
Scandinavian countries. Best public services, lowest gap between rich and poor, low crime, high standard of living, top of the happiness and contentedness index.
Of course it means paying taxes to pay for it so that’s out for us selfish assholes.
Why should we look to anyone? Why can’t we be the inspiration?

High suicide rates in all Scandinavian countries so it can’t all be great. Would agree that we are too conditioned into thinking that we shouldn’t pay taxes for services. Agree with CM that our politicians are too weak willed to introduce real change against popular opinion.

Because we elect politicians that are reflections of ourselves, motivated more by self interest than in introducing radical change in how the country functions or reforming society to redress some of the inequalities.
