International Elections Thread

The French Canadian PM, Pierre Trudeau.

No fear of that at this stage

Surprised I’ve seen little or no commentary on this. Mental stuff going down in Portugal. No doubt @balbec would approve.

I thought the good guys won that election?

They did. But now “the Man” says they didn’t.

kudos to the little englander at the torygraph who drew the graph as (almost) the German flag

Telegraph must have been seriously conflicted in writing that, with their hatred of the EU obviously winning out over their hatred of the left in this instance.

Hollande not running next year.

Bit like FF retirements in early 2011.

Another failed Socialist.

Any of our Italians and Italophiles have any views on the weekends referendum on reform ???

Italian banks in s spot more bother it’s reported. Just in time to put the fear into the population ahead of the vote

Think the average Italian is gone past the fear factor now.

You could well be right. This is really a monumentous time in general in the recent history of Western style capitalism, whatever way it pans out. The European credit crunch is possibly finally playing out.

The Italian banks are fucked. The smaller ones anyway. We’ll see shortly how serious they are about bailing in depositors.

The march of the far right has been halted. Defeat in Austria.

A crushing defeat for the sneering right-wingers.

Their candidate was awful, in the pocket of big business and completely out of touch with what the real people of Austria wanted.

The social media reaction shows none of them saw this coming, they have no idea what went wrong and less idea about how to win going forward.

I suggest they adopt more pro-immigration policies if they want to do better.

Strange that the far-right internationally were mad for the result of the first Austrian election to be annulled but apoplectic at the prospect of recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

A very confusing stance from them.

F-all to do with the 70’s, its the French in them.

Protect from ISIS?

What the hell have ISIS got to do with it.

Everything else makes alot of sense. He is just as much a product of modern political dissatisfaction as Trump and others are. In alot of places these types of options are getting in just as much as the extremists. Its all about timing and opportunism
