Nope, it costs 2k to insulate an attic
You pay 400 for it
Savings are 400 a year

I paid 5k about 6 years ago for the beading insulation and got those big blanket looking thingies put down in the attic.
Thereās no way it will make any economic sense to do these retro fits but people should be prepared to do their bit to make the world habitable for their grandkids. It canāt all be about nickels and dimes.
Just worked out what we spent on āretroā fitting since we moved Windows ā¬8.5k stove ā¬2.5k attic insulation ā¬1.5k some floors were suspended so had to be filled in ā¬2.5k new heating system (not air to water) ā¬10k. All of it out of released equity in the old house sale. They had pumped the outer walls around 10 years ago so didnāt have to do that. That ā¬25k would probably cost north of ā¬30k now.
The 2.5k for heating isnāt bad. I paid 1700 about 10 years ago
Itāll be worth it to retrofit when thereās no fuel to heat your home - that 1k a year saving could be 5k a year quick enough
There is no way insulating an attic will drop your heating bill by 400 quid.
On Planet Eamon it does
The SEAI says the figures are from October. The cost of materials has gone up 4 times since then which is about a 17% increase. Itāll only get worse as for any materials that are silicone based or oil based.
thanks
I need the breakdown of the 50k please & then for each item i need to see where the increase is
Had a look at doing the deep retrofit a couple of years ago. Even with an approved contractor there was an outside chance it wouldnāt be approved and youād have to cover the full cost. It made a mortgage application seem like filling in a club lotto ticket.
Just an FYI Eamon walked with my kids to school this morning finally cc the selfish G
People are happy to bang on about price increases of insulation, without mentioning price increases of electricity/gas/oil etc.
He knows full well what heās talking about, unlike the idiots whose brainchild this is.
Absolutely nobody on an average wage is going to get involved in this scheme. Itās a waste of time retro fitting old houses unless youāve bought one and are doing it up.Upper middle class people who drive electric cars will have their retro fitting subsidised by everyone else.
The poorest get 100% of the cost
Some people will choose to do one or two things where they get 80% paid
Others will go for the deep retrofit
Its is subsidized by people who pollute as its 100% paid for by the carbon tax
Itāll drive value to house owners over renters so itās not all bad.
Itāll also mean private landlords exit the market as costs will be prohibitive to bring up rental properties to required energy rating.
If weāve learned anything from last 25 years itās that swinging high level government initiatives in housing are very bit Butterfly wings

The UK energy companies sent out a pair of thick socks to their customers to help with winter. These millennials prancing around with no socks and their hands out to the taxpayer looking for money for heating
