Ireland politics (Part 2)

That’s a pretty silly comment, they were raising the defence budget anyway, it’s been in the news a lot.

Why was Berry holding out 4 days ago so?

Or rebuilding them up here.

A €400m increase during a cost of living crisis is very FF/FG.

the govt has been huffing and puffing a lot around the increased spending from the defence review but no hard money came onto the table until berry made noises.

the defence funding is normally indicated in the budget, strange that they only bought this element of the cost of living budget forward

Uh oh, @glasagusban badly mugged off

Why was a politician playing politics? The increase in defence spending was coming, it was only a matter of how much. I think the Greens and or Public Expenditure were slowing it but it wasn’t going to be stopped.

No, I’m afraid you’re wrong here and your comment was silly. A massive increase in defence spending to buy off one td for a vote according to you and Art. Lol.

Bollocksology throwing money in Berry’s direction ( even if it ever lands). They have the numbers in situ.
In his defence he’s being a bit opportunistic as he’s entitled to be. Any word from Kerry yet?.

come off it, youre talking shite.

it was queued up and put on the long finger so that it would be announced in the budget whether we’d be going with option 2, 2.5 or 3. the cost of living crisis overtoook it and then they had to shore up the govt by getting berry’s vote

Defence Forces – Thursday, 10 Mar 2022 – Parliamentary Questions (33rd Dáil) – Houses of the Oireachtas

“Thus, for 2022, the total gross allocation provided to the Defence Vote Group, as set out in Budget 2022, is €1,107 million, comprising of €836 million for Vote 36 (Defence) and €271 million for Vote 35 (Army Pensions). Funding for 2023 will set out in Budget 2023.”

It been flagged for the guts of a year the increase is coming, only a question of how much. You think they’re spending that money for Berry’s vote? That’s idiotic.

Berry has done Trojan work for our military. We won’t forget it.

They’re not. There’s been numerous statements saying the government would make a decision on this in July. You’re talking through your hole I’m afraid.

What are we defending against and with what? The days of needing an army are almost over. You just need a good studio and cgi experts

Darragh O’Brien trying to rush through more housing legislation without debate, curtailing the right to object.

He would have been some man for FF in the 80s or 90s.

Maybe some more air defense so that we don’t have to rely on the RAF to help out. I forgot that Republicans were happy with Britain being involved.

Involved in what? I cant recall the RAF getting involved in Irish airspace in my lifetime.

As a matter of interest but off topic. In 1982 145 of 166 deputies were FF/FG. 40 years later 73 of 160 deputies are FF/FG. 2011 and 1992 were the seismic elections though Bertie rowed back a lot of the losses for a while.
