I dislike Varadkar more than most but you seem obsessed by this. No one cares. Nor should they. I donât think it would be different for other politicians either.
That being said, is it possible that The Ditch over-egged it when they said it broke the law? I donât buy into the Paddy C narrative that all the journalists are ignoring the story on purpose. Gavin Reillyâs suggestion that they couldnât touch it in the absence of information and because The Ditch had reported it as law-breaking seems to sound about right.
Iâm not sure about that. You can surely cover it without endorsing it or suggesting the law was broken. It was on rte 1 there at lunchtime, so obviously itâs not untouchable.
I donât know enough about Irelandâs defamation laws to be honest but I donât buy into this notion that all the mainstream media were ignoring it as part of some sort of bias or conspiracy so to my mind there was something holding them back.
They started commenting on it yesterday possibly because Paul Murphy raised it and there was a statement from Niall Collins on it. Prior to that, there was only The Ditch, Paddy Cosgrave and a bunch of Twitter headbangers.
I thought it was a bit weird that the likes of SF werenât raising it either but that didnât seem to get as much comment.
Jesus itâs very poignant seeing quite elderly women holding photos of their dead teenage kids, born in the 1960s, with clothes and haircuts of their time, who are forever young and never got the chance to grow old. A motherâs love is something to behold.
