Ireland politics (Part 2)

The booming economy and the increase in welfare payments and the increase in housing supply and better public transport are paying dividends for the government

If SF came out tomorrow and said they were turning back anyone that showed up in Dublin airport without a passport and fining the Airline and dropping the benefits to 50 euro a week for a maximum of 6 months theyā€™d have the election sown up.

Report out last week that a guard and nurse (if married) couldnā€™t afford a 3 bed semi D in Dublin.

Employment is in great nick but we have no spending power due to cost of living/inflation/weak euro - weā€™re the worst in eu for spending power.

Immigration is a Red herring and only good for rising glas and sid on. Without it weā€™d be fuckedā€¦ FFG happily sowing division on this front is sickā€¦

Unvetted military aged male refugees is very serious tho and we should burn the country to the ground until itā€™s resolvedā€¦ :fire::fire::fire:

I donā€™t knowā€¦ The anti mob are so hate filled theyā€™d just move on to another issue and keep burning down hotels regardless.

Just goes to show all serious parties ff fg sf and joke parties greens, sd, pbp/solidarity/commies and labour aouldnt give a toss about the public or ireland just keeping themselves in power. Its all a game ot them and if you oppose them youll get labelled far right, anti vax, headbanger or racist

People who demonstrate against refugees have no interest in politics and have no interest in a functioning society, theyā€™re merely interested in bullying people they think they can kick down on.

This says weā€™re 52 per cent above European average.

Thereā€™s no doubt the high wages the big MNCs pay and the growth of dual income households have driven inflation not to mention the pink pound.

Fuck it Iā€™m one of them now :pensive:

I lashed up a recent report on here a couple of months back that had paddy bent over a barrell when it comes to spending power.

We can all agree that the euro is a disaster.

Thereā€™d been a massive growth in couples earnings. People in Dublin are on big salaries and spending it

They wouldnā€™t. Iā€™m no fan but they are between a rock and a hard place between their traditional supporters and the youth popularity they have

He could at least call you out as a source. Hi Ewan, we love you

Guards a poor example, not sure why they were used.

Overall prices are now fairly static and cost rental has kicked off. Social housing list is significantly down as well.

Being all things to all people doesnt stack up

Guards are a great exampleā€¦ If your police force cant afford to house themselves where does that leave the role and the state? Police, nurses and teachers (among others) are the bedrock of any country

Guards are one of the best paid categories of workers in the state.

Half of Dublin is owned by guards and nurses and teachers and they on gold plated pensions.

Guards make a fortune with overtime.

If you look at it realistically, the average salary now in Dublin after a few years is ā‚¬50k.

Iā€™d say ideally youā€™d like to see house prices come back to an average of ā‚¬400k. Not a huge decrease really.

Everything else should be cost rental and social.

A guard and nurse canā€™t afford a 3 bed semi D ā€¦ Thems the facts. @Tim_Riggins said they can if they work a 70 hour week :person_shrugging:t2:
