Irish music

This Gavin James song is getting a lot of radio airplay (not that anybody here would notice), it’s quite a nice tune, reminds me of the song that the lad from Fun and Pink dueted on, a very in-Irish Irish song.

That’s horrid. I’d say Ray D’Arcy loves it

Tom Dunne had a feature on a Irish Music last night. Asked punters to text in

  1. First gig by an Irish artist they were at
  2. Best gig by an Irish band.

I think the first gig I was at was Philomena Begley in Baltinglass. My uncle brought me.

The first gig I went to by myself was probably Christy Moore in Katie Reillys kitchen.

Best one would be difficult. I’d say it was the Moving Hearts in the SFX unless the Pogues count as Irish in which case it was the Pogues in the Bridge Hotel.

I was at big ‘concerts’ in Pairc ui Chaoimh but the first gig I remember was the fat lady sings in Nancy Spains, I’d say I was 16 and it was brilliant.
Best gig was probably the Frank and Walters homecoming after they’d went over and conquered England by getting to number 8 in the charts with After All. It was in the city hall and was electric, the sultans played a few weeks later and it wasn’t far behind.

I met Nicky Kelly last week. Looking very young still.

Not far off being the greatest of all Irish songwriters in my opinion, lovely voice to listen to as well.

The President and Bono congratulated some band called Picture House yesterday on the 21st anniversary of their first record. Granted I wouldn’t be as with it as the likes of @ChocolateMice, @backinatracksuit, @TheUlteriorMotive and @Bandage but I had neverso much as heard of this crowd. Are they a big thing? Have I missed out?

I’ve never heard of them nor did I hear about the president and Bono congratulating them - you’re more clued in than me it seems but not @Bandage @TheUlteriorMotive and @backinatracksuit tho.

Were they not just a band who had very mediocre success in the late 90s?
I remember seeing them play outside HMV on Cruises St one Saturday

Fake news. The President congratulated them over a week ago. I saw his letter to them posted on the official Picturehouse Facebook page last week anyway.

Its all been about shine boxes these past few days.

The President’s letter is dated 29th August in that RTE story and that’s “over a week ago”.

I’m chalking this down as another internet victory for me.
