What a day
No idea @Fagan_ODowd why they garnered any attention. I had heard of them alright but assumed they had their one song and that was it.
Strange that @Fagan_ODowd feels the need to advertise the fact that he hasn’t heard of some band from the old days, not sure of the point of it at all, a bizarre attempt at a dig it appears?
He has you dancing like a puppet
OK,
John Kelly has been pushing an album by a chap called Seamus Fogarty. A Mayoman. It seems to be very good.
Pogues in the Bridge was round 1987?
They had them and Aslan on close enough together. Two memorable gigs.
Pretty sure it was the Red Roses for Me tour at the tail end of 1984.
Frank Harte, have a couple of his albums. A very distinctive singing style, some good songs on them that I’ve never heard anywhere else.
The song? I hadn’t heard of Frank harte. Must have a listen
Loads of “his” songs on YouTube.
Have you heard gleeson singing before? He has some voice
Are there any decent alternative Irish bands? Only one I can think of now are The Fontaines, and even at that, they’re tipping their hat to Whipping Boy but they’re decent. Girl Band were ok, but a bit too experimental and noisy for me.
There are a lot of cool looking, trendy bands at the moment in Ireland, with questionable music.
Heard Ronan Collins talking to Mary Black about this today. There is a series starting Sunday night featuring the songs. Not the top ten I would have picked myself.
When I heard about that poll I was sure that the Fields of Athenry had it but it appears not?
I’m sick listening to that oul’ shite, every bollocks ada/opting to suit their cause.
I’ve voted for The Parting Glass which I assume is Liam Clancy’s version.
That would be my choice as well, with Raglan Road second and The Foggy Dew third. All sang by Sinead O’Connor.
I’ve only learned recently that the subject of the poem Raglan Road, ie Hilda Moriarty
subsequently married Donogh O’Malley. Every day is school day I guess.
By God. It never even occurred to me to question or explore something so timeless - That song is like an biblical story, or a mountain on the horizon.
I’d say she must have been a right piece of work.
