Hes not eamonns nephew. That was just added in for increased outrage

Elected on multiple occasions and poll toppers.

It’s still bad form to take away local business and give to someone in Dublin who undoubtedly has a connection somewhere to someone. It’s how Ireland works and it’s wrong

Indeed but we’re both hanging around the Seanad for about 10 years after failed election attempts at either, or both, European and Dail elections.

Others that come to mind are John Paul Phelan and Malcolm Byrne.

Pearse Doherty spent no more than 3 years in the Seanad, certainly not ten. He first ran for Dail in 02 but definitely didn’t get Seanad gig back then, more than likely after 07 GE. He won a by election then the year before the 2011 one

Doherty was elected as a councillor on his first attempt and had 3 unsuccessful attempts at general and European elections before being elected. He spent 3 years in the Seanad. He has been elected on four occasions since.

Cullinane has a similar path. Was an elected councillor, spent a term in the Seanad before he was elected on his 4th attempt at the Dail.

These are all fairly standard political career paths.

You clearly didn’t read what I asked which was

Politicians who:

  • felt local level politics were beneath them
  • had numerous failed attempts at European and general elections without ever getting elected
  • have been hanging around the Seanad for multiple terms

Three unsuccessful attempts at election? Wow.

Take it up with @croppy_boy

Sounds like one of your heroes fits the bill of the type of politician you were attempting to criticise.

How ironic.

I did, that’s why I included as a quote, which said:

There is a phenomenon of the long term Seanad seat holder like Fergal Quinn and Des Hanafin who never seemed bothered with a run at the DƔil.

Loads of the cunts listed here Records of members of the Oireachtas - Wikipedia

Decades? Hanging around the seanad like a bad smell? Wouldn’t or failed to cut their teeth at local politics. You listed two people that ticked none of those boxes. In fact you picked two politicians who romped up in their constituencies at the first count last time around.

You clearly didn’t read what I asking.

Another illiterate halfwit.

I think what he’s saying is that they kept on trying to get elected and then they got elected and now he loves them but others who haven’t been elected shouldn’t keep on trying to get elected because they haven’t been elected yet. Or something

You’re very needy and out for a row today. I showed you the part of your post that I was referring to. I don’t know how I could be more explicit than that.

Cullinane didn’t get elected to the DĆ”il until 14 years after his first attempt, Doherty nine years later, John Paul Phelan was a similar timeframe to Doherty with a term more in the Seanad and an election defeat less - he didn’t run in 2002.

The 3 you have mentioned would all be ā€œcareerist politicians ā€œ. FWIW that is a stupid term and means fuck all .

@Fulvio_From_Aughnacloy has tied himself up in knots here.

I’m just pointing the fact you didn’t read what you were asked.

Cullinane has been an elected local rep since 2004.
He had one term in the Seanad.
He was elected to the Dail in 2016 and topped the poll in the 2020 election.

Compared to the likes of Bacik:
Who has never been elected in any general or European election she has ever contested
Has never ran for or been elected at local level
Has been a member of the Seanad now for 15 years without ever coming close to elected for a proper government.

You should read the question the next time.

There’s definitely a legacy of long serving FF and FG Senators due the idiot Taoiseach’s 11 rule in that House.

Can’t find it online but does anyone have any idea who was been involved in the most unsuccessful attempts to get elected to the DĆ”il?

Politicians nonetheless who have ran been successful in elections they have ran in and have been chosen by the electorate unlike others who have made a political career despite being rejected by the electorate at every turn.

Buddy I’ve told you twice and that’s what I included the part of the post that I was referring to. There’s no need to have a hissy fit about it.

We’re not arguing here.
