Is Dubai gone tits up?

Yeah right

Someday you’ll understand that ireland has changed a bit in the 20 something odd years you’ve lived abroad.
And also that you can sometimes be a little…unreasonable/fixated… on certain matters.

Ok, explain the panel system for primary school teachers.

It’s n9w open to tattle.ie types and camogiemonthly.ie types too…

@fenwaypark makes the valid point here, if you have it that the credit abroad will hold up here, then it means whilst you may attract people back, the more pressing matter is you encourage them to leave in the first place. Many weigh up the option to go abroad or not and travel when young. If they know they can leave and come to higher pay rewards, then there is no incentive to stay at all and work the way up.

I also dont understand the mentalitly of the type in flattys example too. There is no job in the locality, so instead of travelling somewhere close by, they’ll move to the uk or elsewhere and travel hours and a different country away rather than within an hours drive away. I perfectly understand if its to travel or get new experiences or whatever, but the “there are no jobs for me here” i dont get.

There are definitely jobs for her, most jobs haven’t even been advertised yet

And British experience turns a lot of people off teaching altogether

I don’t know if you can walk straight into a teaching job here.
Most teachers start off by subbing…

You could easily pick up a fixed term contract or maternity cover straight out.
Even subbing is everyday work if you want it to be

When someone mentioned they are crying out for teachers? Where? What subjects?

For 9 months a year

Pays above the daily rate and you can work for the summer

How much would you get for a day subbing in a national school? Do they let people sub with a degree and no teaching qualification?

You don’t need to be fully qualified anyway but any I’ve come across were in the later stages of a B-Ed or equivalent.
You earn more than the newly qualified day rate because you can’t work the holidays

I don’t know the figures but somebody else will

Varies but yes. Depends how desperate. Most schools wont hire a randomer they dont know but many will fish within qualified or semi qualified/ interested within their parenting groups. Massive trust involved obviously. Once youre in its grand but if youd like to stay then youll need to start qualifying.

Think you’d need to be doing the PME or the Primary undergrad to sub in Primary. Don’t think I’ve ever met an unqualified teacher not doing one of the above in primary but could be a different story in secondary or in Dublin where they are really stuck. You need to be Teaching Council registered to get paid in primary I’m nearly sure as well.

Ill respectfully disagree. We’ve had people teaching our kids as subs who we happen to know, who definitely werent qualified but stepped in. Maybe it was a needs must scenario during covid but thats how it was.
I know a lad who also has been offered a good few jobs teaching irish in secondary despite not having any teaching qualifications here.
