I love that album. Swan Swan Hummingbird is a classic
I think it’s their best.
Not too sure about the cover of Superman at the end though.
I love it. Not a serious song but a great way to close a brilliant album. I love Mills voice in any case too
The first four songs are as strong as any I have heard on any album.
Just picked up Out of Time for the second time on CD after giving away the last one. Cracking album. While I am not or never was a huge REM fan, my favourite “sound” or album run is from Out of Time, Automatic for the People, Monster, New Adventures, Up.
Their run from Murmur to Green, pretty much an album a year for six years, was phenomenal. Not a dud in there.
@farmerinthecity I love Lifes Rich Pageant as well. When I was 15 or so and moving from cassettes to CDs, I convinced my mother to sign me up to one of those Britannica CD clubs. You know the buy one, get four free but you’ve to buy another half a dozen over the next two years or whatever it was. Picked up all the IRS ones through that as they were always cheap (I think between £5-8).
My first proper gig was the Werchter Festival in Belgium when I was 17. Waited all day for REM. Started pissing rain just as they started and lashed until the end, and fell asleep in the train station waiting for the morning train back to Brussels.
They played Fall On Me early in set and then did Cuyahoga in the encores. Just brilliant. They opened up a show in Dublin in 2003 with Begin the Begin
