One part of IT that I hated was when I was on call. I was on call every 2 to 3 weeks, talk about fucking up your life. The only way I will go on call again is if the they are chucking truck loads of money at me to go on call.
Have you left the industry Taz?
Nah still in IT but not on call thank fuck. It makes life a lot easier when you can leave work each day and not worry about some fucking idiot ringing you in the middle of the night with a stupid question because some process is taking a little longer to run than the night before but the process is still running and there have been no error messages. You wouldn’t believe the calls that you get when you are on call.
Microsoft are fucked.
They’ve bet the house on Windows 8 and it’s a flop.
They have “millions” of surface tablets unsold.
Still can’t break into the mobile market.
Coporate IT is becoming more and more consumer driven these days, if Windows (or some derivative) starts to disappear from the home, it will also start to disappear from the office.

Google are well on course to be running the world in 2020. Not even your tinfoil hat will save you then.
The IT guy in our company is a credit to the IT profession. He is often really busy but will always help you out with a bit of craic as well. He knows his shit too which helps also.
Delighted to read this.
Hmmmmm, are you the new guy that started last week?
2222
Should be easy to deduce. Is the new guy 8ft tall if yes then there’s a good chance it is @farmerinthecity
It should be easier to deduce than that second sentence anyways.
Today I am almost the carbon of the guy farmer describes above. I’m getting through a mountain of work but all the while maintaining a pleasant and jovial demeanor (except when I was dealing with one gowl who I don’t like).
There is always a gowl.
The contracter who I work side by side with left the company this morning. Hard to blame him, got a dogs dinner of a project thrown at him which nobody was willing to lead or make decisions on and given far too tight a deadline to implement it. He has been here close to 2 and a half year used to make a 7 hour commute every Monday and Friday. Landed a perminant role with an American company which will allow him to WFH constantly.
Means I have to take on the lions share of his work until he is backfilled, but I have managed to avoid getting involved in the SPP project which led to him leaving. Gonna be a busy few months ahead

You have em in a corner now Chewy, demand a pay rise
I was seething early this week when I discovered a sloppy set up by a contractor resulted in one of my servers being hacked. Thankfully I got it fairly quickly and fixed things up. I then proceeded to check the other servers he had setup and they had a similar security flaw.
I got one effective the 1st of October. Second one this year. This time last year there were three full time staff and a £500 a day contractor in my functional area. Now there are just two full time staff and two open req’s which we cannot fill
@chewy louie and @TreatyStones represent the very best in Irish manhood. Hardworking and with a commendable attitude to life’s challenges. The Midwest will become an economic powerhouse if it continues to churn out chaps of this calibre
