The contracter who I work side by side with left the company this morning. Hard to blame him, got a dogs dinner of a project thrown at him which nobody was willing to lead or make decisions on and given far too tight a deadline to implement it. He has been here close to 2 and a half year used to make a 7 hour commute every Monday and Friday. Landed a perminant role with an American company which will allow him to WFH constantly.
Means I have to take on the lions share of his work until he is backfilled, but I have managed to avoid getting involved in the SPP project which led to him leaving. Gonna be a busy few months ahead
I hope the increased workload doesn’t adversely impact your TFK posting output. But good luck all the same, pal.
Another fairly senior team member has handed in his notice today. He is a different functional area to me and is the fourth person this year to hand in their notice who is on a project team which the business are trying to rush in and is going from one disaster to the other.
If this keeps up I will be running this place this time next year. Yup:pint:

So what you’re saying is that no-one can stand working with you so they’re all leaving?

Means fuck all unless your pay packet is getting fatter.
Sort this shit out before the extra responsibility becomes part of your ‘current role’.

Don’t I know it. It is gas, the company was sold 18 months or so ago and it has really seperated the wheat from the chaff. 3 of the 4 that left were here close to a decade and had it relatively handy but now that they have been actually made to do proper work with challenging deadlines and resources they are bottling it and running for the hills.
The latest round of Injun contractors in our place are beyond dumb.
I am convinced they are plucking these lads directly out of trees in the Kasmiri Jungle, giving them a photocopy of IT for dummies, a pair of grey farah trousers, a blue crisp shirt and Mach 3… and then letting them run wild.
30 minutes on the phone to a lad there. No answers to any of the questions I asked, no updates on any of work he was given last week. I don’t think he has any English.

Did you interview these lads? My experience is that even if you did the lad you interviewed would be different from the lad you deal with day to day. Full of shenanigans them lads.
But the lads paying the bills will convince themselves they’ve done the right thing by saving $0.01.

Yeah, I have sat in on a few interviews… joke.
The expectation is that these guys can come in and ramp up in no time. The reality is that the good ones come in and ramp up quickly and then leave for a better job. The bad ones remain and have to be carried until they are found out which is sometimes never…
This is a cunt of a game lads… granted it pays well but its a damn hard slog these days.
Working across 3 time zones at the minute. Trying to spend time training the injuns in the morning and then learning from the states all afternoon… along with working with your local team throughout the day.

I am hoping to get a trip to Dallas-Forthworth in the New Year to do some hand overs/knowledge transfers on a project I implemented earlier this year. But there is also the possibility that this could also take place remotely which would be an awful ball burster to do over the phone given the time difference and my strong East Clare accent
