I did that for 18 months. It nearly fcuked killed me with stress and lack of sleep. Every second week and would get called 3 to 4 times a week including weekends. And still be expected to be in work next morning.
This is one of the reasons I moved to QA.
No on call here .
The lads up in Clover Hill have it better than you @chewy louie
It is the client/facilities that contact us the vast majority of the times. Would only get contacted by the likes of DRM or BASIS directly if they need to bounce a system or server.
Facilities contact us when they have a P1 or P2 issue out of hours- i.e facility down between 4pm and 8am uk time. So you are pretty much 24/7. As one of the systems had no memory it pretty much ground to a hault last night around 12:30 just as our half a dozen or so North American facilites for that client were hitting the critical point of their day. System rectified itself after an hour - had to do fuck all aside from contact the relevant departments and manage the incident. But it is two hours I would rather have had in bed asleep

16 weeks of it a year - 8 primary and 8 secondary. The OT and days in lieu are a bonus but would happily do away with them not to do it. Our team is getting smaller and smaller with more contracters coming in instead of permies so even more to do next year by the looks of it. I don’t mind being on call so much as the vast majority of out of hours calls are linked to my functional area of expertise so it isn’t too taxing, but it also has its drawbacks as I often get called to investigate issues out of hours when not on call
Did it warp your ability to do basic maths?
Did you miss the bit about again at 6:30? It was three hours in total. The only thing that is warped is your comprehension
6.30am is not night-time mate. Sure Tassoti has a days work done by then.
I feel your pain. Was on call for 4 years in my old job and hated every minute of it. It is just not worth the money.
Dealing with Fucking programmers.
Knocking P1s out of the park:clap:
I’m creating critical defects like they are going out of fashion, when the US dev guy gets in he is gonna want a Xanax.
Sure he is probably popping the Xanax like skittles already.
I fucking hate shitty code and function modules:mad:
I hate time zones…
Trying to organise meetings with Yanks and Injuns at the same time is virtually impossible.

I have a project that I have to handover to colleagues in the US and Bangalore at the end of Feb. Told the boss I would much rather do it face to face as there will be a good few KT sessions and what not and would be a balls to do workshops over the phone/video conferencing.
Of course my main reason for saying this was to get a jolly to Dallas or Bangalore. He gave my suggestion to his peers and global manager and it was agreed that they would send them over to me here in England for two weeks:eek::mad:
Would much prefer to do it over the phone now:rolleyes:

what a backfire.
Yeah, a right balls of a job. Two from Bangalore and one from the States
Amateur hour, did you not suss out what travel budget was available at each location before hand?
@chewy louie does not work for a mickey mouse operation, work dogs like him would have no visibility of budgets.
