Yeah it’s an easy spot to get accommodation in with all the frats and San Fran is ridiculously expensive to get places.

From the photographs, the balcony appears to have had a concrete base which disintegrated and the whole structure flipped upside down.

The balcony should definitely have been been able to take 14 people.

Being mentioned on Liveline that the balcony would have been listed in the building code as a fire escape, so it should certainly have been able to take the weight, and given that it is an earthquake-prone area, which would require stringent building standards, the fault would not appear to be with the building standards in general in the area, but with the way the individual building was constructed.
