Good to see heâs also laughed off the disgraceful attempts at character assassination by some of this countryâs gutter press and is enjoying himself again with his palsâŚ
The great man going back to his roots today watching the FAI Junior Cup Semi Final between Sherrif YC and Clonmel Celtic in Johnâs home club St. Michaelâs home ground, Cooke Park.
Sherrif YC won the game 1-0. Into their third final in four years now.
Ah Tabby theyâre renowned filth. 2 men sent off in quarter this year against St Michaels. 2 men sent off in final last year and man sent off in 2013 final against Killester. Well renowned for turning ugly when things donât go their way. Donât know how the FAI havenât thrown the book at them.

Was rumoured to have been a HT/FT betting coup. Lot of people backed Shels HT Sheriff FT, Shels were 2-0 up at HT and somehow contrived to lose 3-2. Bookies moaned like fuck about it and quite a few people from the north and south inner city filled their boots. Sheriff were fucked out afterwards for playing an ineligible player and Shels managed to get to the final where they lost in heart-breaking fashion on penalties to Sligo.
anyone at that game yesterday?
Cobh Wanderers are playing Clonmel in FAI senior cup 2nd round , hopefully the lads can beat them even tho Clonmel are well regarded
Cobh got put out of the intermediate cup by Crumlin ( and were unlucky), Crumlin are better than most sides in the LOI div 1 ( think Tolka Rovers / Avondale united type of set up over there , no intention of ever going to LOI level, mind you that whole ethos of knowing your club will be destroyed if you decide to try to progress to senor football is essentially the reason why the club game is rotten here) .
im playing with west dublin/north kildare/south meath LSL team, we have a former SPL with St Johnstone, LOI and FAI cup final winner and scorer playing center half and an ex shels winger⌠these lads are now only playing for the craic but still get well payed⌠Firhouse Clover who dumped us out of the intermediate cup are similar, a thriving club who would go bust of they they ever decided to go to play LOI
the whole cabinteely thing is a joke, playing our at Blackrock RFC, Tolka Rovers have a savage set up , they own the whole thing⌠why would be arsed hauiling themselves to Ballybofey on a friday night when they can play in front of bigger crowds and be self sustaining in the LSL?

Therein lies the problem of the first division in Irish soccer. Eight teams playing in front of paltry crowds in such geographically diverse areas is a recipe for disaster.
There needs to be a huge shake up of the second tier. Divide it up into north and south regions and invite the crack teams from the junior circuit to make up the numbers, you could easily have two divisions with 12 teams in each. Promote the champions of the north and south into the premier league and relegate the bottom two from that division. I strongly believe that would be a huge shot in the arm for Irish soccer.
