I havenât contradicted myself. Irish salaries are higher than Belarusian salaries which is linked to the cost of living. Football is a global game, Irish clubs operate under the same parameters as Belarusian clubs but the Belarusian clubs equip themselves better and are more self sufficient.

That he earns three times what the winner of the national league gets. You are using one team who win the league every year in Belarus as evidence that clubs donât need funding
Why is that an issue? Dela has paid his salary 13 years in advance with the money he got from FIFA alone.
Footballing Associations are simply not there to bankroll football clubs. They are there to govern them.
Giving greater prize money to league of Ireland winners would be most unwise . The sad parable of LOI clubs incurring unsustainable debts pursuing scarce bounty should guide us . Most of the LOI winners from 2000 to 2008 ended up utter basket cases .

I donât understand why people are so obsessed with this one off payment of âŹ5m. I donât particularly care about how much money the FAI make but if you are going to praise Delaney for that, then you have to ask why have the FAIâs revenues stagnated while the IRFUâs have skyrocketed since John Delaney took over?

The LOI is not a valid comparison . None of the national team plays in the LOI . It is a relatively small league . I am struggling to think of a comparator association / league with a similar population and similar proportion of barstoolers .

that 5 million âloanâ from FIFA was written off after Ireland failed to qualify for World Cup 2014. Had Ireland qualified, the FAI would have had to pay it back in full.
It was used in a contribution to the Aviva.
FIFA Statement:
"FIFA granted FAI a loan of âŹ5 million for the construction of a stadium in Ireland. At the same time, UEFA also granted the FAI funds for the same stadium.
âThe terms agreed between FIFA and the FAI were that the loan would be reimbursed if Ireland qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Ireland did not so qualify. Because of this, and in view of the FAIâs financial situation, FIFA decided to write off the loan as per 31 December 2014.â
So his greatest achievement was a pity payment

why canât mick get his head around that you have to pay for quality? John Delaney is giving the best years of his life to this job, making strategic decisions, the same whingers going on about people in the public sector getting big salaries, they have to be above reproach, and immune to corruption, that is why they need to be well paid

He loaned the organisation he was CEO of 100k. That smacks of corruption.
He was getting his rent paid and pay rises in 2016 while the staff of the FAI were being told they couldnât have previous conditions restored.
Heâs been at the trough for too long and got caught. It happens.
The next fella will come in and do the same job, but he wonât take off his shoes or go on the piss with COYBIG crew.
