Jordan Peterson 🐐 vs CH4

I’m genuinely interested in your thoughts here Flatty. I find it odd that anyone thinks there is a “liberal orthodoxy” and I don’t know what you mean by that. Is your Tory government or our FG (Irish Tory) government or the USA republican government or Merkel’s government or the EU part of this “liberal orthodoxy”? I don’t know what a liberal orthodoxy is, but it seems to me that if we have anything we have the opposite of a liberal orthodoxy.

Interesting.

Can you include an assessment criteria as ‘good interpersonal skills’? Try to rid out the cunts that way. What is the legal standpoint on that?

Not precipitated by government, but certainly facilitated. Its more a bastard child of the “health and safety” industry, once a force for great good, which has flourished like the mink population in the wild. Every month there seems to be yet another utterly pointless training course which some faceless drone has decided is now mandatory. It rises unchecked. Its no wonder British productivity is at an all time low. The workforce spends half its time in a lecture theatre being droned at my some overweight monotone about how to run away from a lad with a brick (and I’m not actually joking here).

Don’t know actually. I may have missed that bit, or we didn’t ask. I’ll see can I find out.

There is good economic research out there about how economies create worthless and drone jobs for people. Technological advances are supposed to push people into higher value jobs and increase free time but actually the opposite happens. That’s a digression.

To come back to your first point, and I’m not trying to be confrontational here but you’re able to have a discussion unlike kev, you’ve gone from liberal orthodoxy to health and safety industry. They can hardly mean the same thing. Why do you think there is a such a thing as a liberal orthodoxy when all of the powers and governments that affect you or are of interest to you can be described as conservative? Isn’t that contradictory?

No I don’t. You asked for an example. I gave one example, and that’s the way the conversation drifted.
I don’t believe any government is Conservative or Liberal anymore. I believe Western governments, certainly the UK, is filled with people whose only ideology is re-election. None have a long term plan other than that, and will just sway with whatever breeze is out there at the time.

Apparently this Peterson lad is a great fella to challenge the liberal orthodoxy, which needs to be done. But no one can identify what it is or why they think it exists, and all of them are governed by conservative governments and institutions, but they think they are governed by a liberal orthodoxy. So what they think seems to be the opposite of reality.

That’s the way it’s gone these days with the sky sports and the social media.

 my nigga

Read enough articles by professional contrarian conservative wums and you can be shaped to believe literally anything.

Like sensory deprivation torture.

Middle class social activists are completely out of touch with reality.

it’s a fear of having a debate with shades of grey for fear of incurring wrath and opprobrium of a vocal minority

For example if you have a public profile and try to have a conversation about the social issues that transgender gives rise to and where that leads to then you will be quickly shot and shut down.

Yes, but the reason why we have center right or right wing governments is because the modern version of liberalism has been utterly rejected. Study the 2016 US election and see how liberal orthodoxy (I don’t like the term but let’s use it for now) is so out of touch with reality and what actually matters to people at an individual level.

Identity politics and dividing people into groups is the core of it and mired in stupidity. Hillary referring to half the country as “deplorables”, way to win an election you stupid bitch. The DNC parading illegal aliens on stage at their convention while people are sitting at home aghast thinking “I’ve lost my job, or can’t get a decent paying job, and here are these cunts standing up for illegals who undercut wages”.

The main thrust of Peterson’s argument isn’t against politics, it’s against academics who are filling young people’s heads with garbage post modernist Marxist shit that has been proven over and over to lead to economic and societal failure. He is hated by the left and by academia in particular as he encourages people to think for themselves and explore different ideas, this is something modern leftists hate as they demand you must believe what they believe. It’s a crock of horseshit, the same tired old recycled Marxist garbage putting the state and the group ahead of the person.

FFS. This old tripe again. The same right wing conspiracy theories that have been doing the rounds for a century. Let me guess. It’s ‘the Frankfurt School’ that done it?

Umberto Eco summed this shite up in his account of Fascism

Thinking is a form of emasculation. Therefore culture is suspect insofar as it is identified with critical attitudes. Distrust of the intellectual world has always been a symptom of Ur-Fascism, from Goering’s alleged statement (“When I hear talk of culture I reach for my gun”) to the frequent use of such expressions as “degenerate intellectuals,” “eggheads,” “effete snobs,” “universities are a nest of reds.” The official Fascist intellectuals were mainly engaged in attacking modern culture and the liberal intelligentsia for having betrayed traditional values.

Peterson is just has the latest rendition of this old tune.

The gas thing is Peterson’s ‘thoughts’ are seen as laughable by any of the actual Jungian experts. Even your beloved Sam Harris took the piss out of his ‘reasoning’. It’s banal self-help tips for lonely young men, with some misogyny and some good old bell curve race science thrown into the bargain.

The reactionary right are by far the main practitioners of identity politics.

Trump, Brexit, Putin, Le Pen, Wilders, AFD, DUP and others are all pretty much exclusively identity politics-driven.

And the identity politics practised by them is indeed utter bullshit.

It’s absolutely toxic.

The difference between so called “left” or “liberal” identity politics (in reality civil rights should be a non partisan political issue, but that’s right-wing nut jobbery for you) and reactionary right identity politics is that the former advocates for equal rights for minorities without trampling over the rights of anybody else.

The latter is all about trampling over the rights of minorities.

Which is why weak, gullible fools lap it up. Their very identity depends on having somebody lower down the status scale than them.

Peterson is the greatest thinker since Sartre … in 20/30 years people will be dealing in and referencing Peterson and post -Peterson narratives…his legacy will change the world forever.

Peterson says solution is not sociological but psychological. Middle class socialists don’t love the poor but that they hate the rich.

His view is you ameliorate inequality by strengthening the individual. Psychological research he carried out in Rotterdam using Self authoring programme over several years - Dutch nationals and non western ethnic minorities. Psychological intervention worked to ameliorate sociological problem

There’s a hilarious Peterson anecdote where a neighbour’s child is left with him after the Nanny was in a serious car crash. The child doesn’t want to eat, and rather than assume that the child is in shock after his Nanny nearly died, he decides that the child has been poorly raised and is being insubordinate. He goes on for ages about how he forced the child to obey the rules of his house and eat. At the end he claims a victory for Western civilisation and manhood. It’s fucking surreal.
