Jordan Peterson šŸ vs CH4

Hard to say, havenā€™t read it.

youve said enough right there

Peterson is harmless. Standard psychology for the most part. Some of the right wing zealots that latched onto him are as bad as the left wing nuts who want to shout him down.

And here we have exhibit A of uninformed virtue signalling. Iā€™d say he screeched at the school in Carlow for an hour on boards last night.

???

Teachers thread

I think that is it.

It would be like banning Helter Skelter because it triggered Charlie Manson.

If you start banning books because people read too much into them and go bonkers youā€™d start with the Bible and Quran. .

True but the shouting down is extremely dangerous, the latching on can be explained by the fact he does offer some solid advice and with no religion in todayā€™s society people almost yearn for some moral guidance, even if they end up ignoring a lot of it.

Offensive incendiary radical stuff alright

I enjoyed it as a read but a lot of his stuff when it comes to hierarchies is perfect world/in a vacuum kind of stuff. The Rules are all common sense and well intentioned dictums in fairness. As @Thomas_Brady says it is all basic/standard clinical psychology babble from him and he is very good at breaking it down and presenting it in laymen langauge.

Canā€™t say from reading his book or listening to some of his interviews that Iā€™d be left of the opinion that he or his content is right wing. I assume this comes from his opinions on gender pronouns which endear him to the radical right and inflame those on radical left of it.

Thatā€™s a very balanced view, you must be a white supremacist Nazi.

His voice is horrific - impossible to listen to.

As in ā€˜Clean your Roomā€™?, nothing inherently wrong with that. He just never seemed to be able to get past the best you could hope for is that things could be worse.

Thatā€™s a little too kind for him. He did the right-wing lecture circuit and IIRC vocally endorsed Donald Trump. On the lecture circuit he made friends with an absolute little cunt called Milo Yiannopoulos, who used to use the fact that he was gay to fairly viciously attack feminism (feminism is a cancer), gay marriage (homosexuality is a sin, the homosexual lifestyle will bring you unhappiness and gay marriage is an affront to religious freedom), Islam, etc. Peterson stood by him throughout all this and said he was a loveable-rogue-type. Eventually Yiannopoulos went too far and said that sex between men and 13 year old boys was just a bit of banter and he himself had been sexually abused as a boy and it had done him no harm (Yiannopoulos is a very damaged, dangerous character). Peterson was left with egg on his face but it was his own fault for standing by so much shit in the run-up. It was inevitable from the way he was going that Yiannopoulos would eventually come out with something like that but FREE SPEECH MAN.

Thereā€™ll be a lot of TFK Peterson supporters staring at their shoes after that.

The poor little snowflakes arenā€™t able to read or hear an alternative viewpoint. In fact hearing an alternative viewpoint upsets them.

A pity they havenā€™t learned any resilience from their strong leader.

Would you ban the Peterson book off back of that - Iā€™ve never heard of Milo to be fair.

Iirc
Peterson has debated with all sorts of people wirh various viewpoints etc. The guilty by association ruse is a very dubious stick to beat anyone with at the best of times.
I think that Yiannopoulos fella set feathers flying by saying that older men showing young teenagers was par for the course when he was growing up, and that it had happened to him. A lot of very leftist types went buck ape at him for having the audacity to talk about his own experience. I dont know anything else about him

You hear all sorts of commentary about Peterson being right wing, associating with right wing types etcā€¦you rarely hear these comments addressing any of Petersonā€™s actual statements. Just some vague stuff about association. Your post is a good example.

Does Joe Rogan attract the same criticism as Peterson. Peterson seems to trigger lads beyond what seems rational.

Seems the extremes on both sides are treating speakers like Peterson like football teams you support or donā€™t support and no room in the middle.

So it seems, but theyā€™re reactionary sorts who have their brains dialled in for them
