Who covers the cost of the maternity leave, the employer or National Insurance?

Morning sickness?

Nothing you can do there really. If the person was already employed itā€™s surprising to me that they would try to change job while pregnant. Iā€™ve usually seen ladies looking to change job during their actual maternity leave and not return to their previous employer.

Of course if they are not currently employed while pregnant and need to be employed to get PRSI or National Insurance cover itā€™s another story. Canā€™t blame them really.

The same day.

You need to read up on how long an average pregnancy lasts bud. Also, doesnā€™t have to be 26 weeks with the same employer.
Anyhow, Iā€™d best leave this here. Like I said, we would likely have employed her anyway, but we found it irritating. Not saying I wouldnā€™t have done the same, Iā€™ll never be put in that situation, but it just seemed a bit less than straight up from our side. Again, Iā€™m not saying it was right or wrong, just thats how it seemed. My female colleagues, as it turns out, was more exercised than I was, so read into that what you will.

Turf her out before her probationary period is up. If she wasnā€™t up front and honest from the start she shouldnā€™t be trusted.

She must have been poled at least a month, mate? + 26 weeks - Thatā€™s 8 months ā€¦ Would she be allowed in the door at 8 months? sheā€™d be a liability at that stage costing the company more money and with a high possibility of liable.

Exactly - Move the goal posts and sack her when she cant make deadlines ā€” Everyone already hates her anyway so it would be best for both parties.

I donā€™t know what the ins and outs of her employment then was. We have hr for that. Just that she was offered the job and the same day informed hr that she was pregnant (after the offer) and instructed them on maternity leave shortly thereafter. As there was nothing to be done so no point worrying about it, I didnā€™t enquire any further. My female colleague was well vexed though.

I dont blame herā€¦ Women like that give hard working honest women a bad name.

I havenā€™t an iota who this lad is but Iā€™m guessing heā€™s a massive cunt judging by how the TFK edgy sheeple have rowed in behind him

You said it, bro. :+1:

Good one mate, that was really clever what you done there.

Iā€™m just coming down to your level for a bit of bants, mate.

Bad name?
Iā€™m not so sure really.
I suppose the point is that she didnā€™t feel she could be honest. It would have made no difference to me, Iā€™d have appointed her anyway, and it would have left an impression if she had.
As an aside, a girl we appointed previously still works for us, and is one of my favourite people. She is a delight. She was the only person initially called for interview for her job, and refused to interview as she said she was pregnant. She contacted us after she had had the baby, and was settled, and was appointed immediately. We rang her after the first time, and told her not to be stupid, but she insisted that it wouldnā€™t be right.
It still makes me embarrassed or uncomfortable for some reason, though I wasnā€™t involved in any of it, and only met her after she started, though I was told at the time.

A great woman ā€” Make sure you bring that up when the non white lady starts next week.

Not sure when sheā€™s back pal. She worked for about three months maybe at a guess and has gone on leave now.
Temps are expensive though.

Well sheā€™s not a boy.

Itā€™s wonderful to see how the critical thinking of @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy and @ChocolateMice has evolved over this past year. The Nogra have truly done an outstanding job opening up peopleā€™s minds.

Camille Paglia is another social commentator who cuts through the bullshit like Peterson, demonstrating that itā€™s possible to be liberal without also being a nutcase.
