Improvement isn’t linear though and players who have looked short of I/C level or moderate at best hurlers can improve hugely under new management or a run without injury. Not every lad is to the manner born, look at Graeme Mul, Mick Fennessey, Cathal Malone, Dan Shanahan etc.
A better balance to the cork team and a better coaching set up could easily see a lads like Robbie O’Flynn, TOM or Kingston take a big step up in form and consistency.
Seriously though, specialising in a code is the way to go. Either that or have a wealthy sugar daddy come in and pump millions into your set up. It’s the only way to win a hurling AI these days.
I heard that Cody intended to step aside this time last year. Cody had Shefflin lined up to succeed him but Shefflin turned it down. Cody then bulling as Shefflin went on and took the Galway job. Lyng winning with the 20s this year gives him an obvious successor that wasn’t there after Shefflin refused.
Agree, I think its Tipp and not Cork who are 3 or 4 years away. They hadn’t a Tipp standard forward last year. Theyre most promising forward prospect looked Ger Browne.
Jake Morris and Mark Kehoe always seemed to be the two young players hyped up back in 2019. Conor Bowe too maybe. @peddlerscross says there’s a plethora of snipers with Cooper helmets coming at underage but it’ll probably be the man after Cahill who benefits from those.
I know they had some underage wins and so there should be players there, but to be a top team I think you need to have a couple top class forwards. Tipp don’t seem to have them. Although they always produce them in fairness.
I could not believe that forward line last year. How many more chances does Jake Morris get? Where should Forde play? I’d say they still need Bubbles looking at this year. The lad at 14 Kehoe looked game and honest but no more than that.
