Even Davy gets a mention here.

Even before he announced that he was stepping down, Cody was getting a bit of a free pass for this year. In fairness they did perform very credibly against a very strong Limerick team in final, but it was probably first time ever I saw Kilkenny fans relatively sanguine after All Ireland Final defeats.

Coming into this year and even after Leinster Round Robin, there was a lot of discontent. Bottom line, 6 years without All Ireland wins is simply unacceptable in Kilkenny regardless of the narrative. That’s out to 7 now. There was an element of Cody having a lot of credit in bank for past services, which is fair enough. I doubt any manager in Kilkenny will ever get more than 3 years without delivering the big pot.

I recall Cody being under fierce pressure to deliver in 2000. If Kilkenny had slipped up that year, he would have got the chop without a doubt. That was the pressure you’d be dealing with in normal circumstances.

The Kilkenny fans around me stayed for the presentation of the cup to the Limerick captain and stood clapping. I couldn’t decide if it was bizarre behaviour (I’d be gone at the whistle if Limerick were beaten) or a touch of class in recognition of a truly great side and only rival to their 2006-2009 GOAT side

I think more of that pressure came from the prospect of becoming the first ever team to lose 3 AI final’s on the bounce rather than any damnation of his performance over the 2 years.
Offaly mugging Cork in that semi might be the most important result of the Cody reign.

I sat down with my head in my hands, jaded.

I stayed, always do, my Dad has it drilled into us that you stay to the finish, win or lose.

I walked away twice - 2004 and 2010, I couldn’t look at them lifting Liam. Stayed in '91 & '98, they were the four finals I was at that we lost.

I’ve been to nine finals we lost, sounds like a lot when you write it down

You’re living in the past. Kilkenny, Tipp and Cork don’t just win every All Ireland any more. Cork could easily go 20 years without one, Tipp are miles off. With the talent of players Kilkenny have had since 2015 Cody has done a good job.

Richie Mulrooney, how come he never gets a look in on senior job thoughts?

Cork could easily win more all irelands than any other county over next 10 years.

I told @Locke yesterday morning that he’s not the man for the job and all i got was abuse.

A dream ticket of Lyng, McGarry, Martin Fogarty and Mick Dempsey seems the most logical choice here.

I got a nice reply out of it, go figure.

Are you serious or messing

Did you? Just shows the the type of idiots we are dealing with here if so. I take no pleasure in being right tho

Seems like he was constantly either u20 or minor manager for ya’s for a good while, won AI’s, touting Eddie and the last Kk job he had he got bet by Westmeath. Not messing.

If there’s something obvious tell me, cause I don’t know.

I went to a man city game with a tbh fairly obnoxious man city season ticket holder property guy.
His son told me that they’d been at the agueeerrrrooo game and the man had made them leave early. They heard the shouting in the car park. His oul fella went mad trying to get back in, but the automatic turnstiles were all locked, and they missed it.
