Kilkenny GAA thread

Ray is a dose and an unbelievably bad fit for Kilkenny. He won’t last the league.

He is and Deccie Wall(not the Callan one) is moving into a coaching role which leaves a gap in the stats/analysis dept.

Deccie from Mullinavat? Positive addition I would think.

Yes good coach I believe, he had been involved behind the scenes with stats, game analysis etc.

I really hope the Ray Boyne thing is a wind up.

He was over Mullinavat when they came up senior about 10 years ago, can only have been early 30s at the time. His wife was very unwell a few years back and he stepped away from the coaching circuit, hopefully they’re out the other side of that now.

Don’t know anything about this Ray Boyne character other than what I’ve read here in the past few days which appears to be almost universally negative.

I don’t know anything about Boyne personally and haven’t actually heard anything about what his work is like.

He has a big social media presence which, to be fair, is almost a self-parody. He’s a huge fan of slow-motion clips that don’t really illustrate anything. Maybe @Fat_Pox knows more.

Having said all that, he was involved with a serious amount of All Ireland wins with Dublin and was also with the Tipp hurlers in 2019. If he was the main man in charge of all analysis, etc, he surely can’t be a complete spoofer if he’s had that level of success.

I don’t think thats true. He may have been there in 2011 but don’t think he was involved after that.

He did punch Tommy Freeman in the head in a league match in Parnell Park around 2007. Not sure it helped us very much but you can’t fault that type of enthusiasm.

I think he was let go by Jim Gavin after Donegal 2014.

I think the term used was, Jim “got shit sick of his shit”.

Fair enough; for some reason, I thought he was involved with them up until he went to Tipp.

Why was he even on the pitch to be punching Freeman? (according to a quick Google search, he headbutted him?)

A headbutt it was. Id say he was trying to show Pillar and Ski Wade how hard he was.

This is one of personal favourites from Ray.

Talk about getting to the emotional pitch of the occasion. He just gets it.

These guys working in FM have far too much time on their hands…

He’s a stats man with a heart.

I seen in the kilkenny people today noel doherty got a 6 month suspension. Fairly steep. What did he do? Abuse a ref?

Would that rule him out for working with the county team?

6 months range usually involves physical aggression of some sort
