Eoin Murphy’s form has gone downhill fierce since he starting retweeting Gript

Might be time for the to swap the Murphy’s

I’d be hugely surprised if we won a Senior All Ireland this decade.

We’ll lose a few of that squad and there doesn’t seem to be anything in the immediate pipeline to replace them of enough quality to be meaningfully competitive.

There is a sense out there that the Development squads weren’t working and that has been fixed with the appointment of Michael Fennelly. If true, that impact won’t be felt for another 3-4 years at least. In the meantime we’ll likely regularly struggle to beat Dublin.

Will Lyng stay on? I think he has been exposed a bit the last few years tactically, probably in-game changes not been as quick or as appropriate as you’d want as a Kilkenny person and his team was shaky today when they were on the ropes. Looks likely big changes coming the next two years for ye. A few of the regulars today looked to have gone backwards - Cody, Mullen, Butler etc

On balance, probably not.

I’d be concerned if they were to remove him they could replace him with something worse. I’d include Henry in that category. It’d be easy to wave off his failure with Galway as them being unmanageable. Micheal O’Donoghue is discovering that his second stint isn’t progressing as he’d like.

I respect what Henry did with Ballyhale, but with a caveat that it may have been the most talented club squad ever assembled and that it may have been difficult to not succeed there.

But outside of that I’m not sure who the front running candidates could be. Brian Dowling maybe.

Was going to say Dowling must be favourite now if there’s a vacancy in next six months. He’s done wonders in a few jobs.

I think Lyng should go. I’d nearly put in Henry at this stage. Maybe Eddie? Need a new voice on the line.

Henry is a disaster

Would be hilarious if Henry got the job. He’s the charisma of a staircase.

Truth be told lyng is probably doing a good job with the tools he’s being provided with.

Kilkenny need people to coach or train a team as jack o Connor said.

Mullen for all his ability has flopped in croke park the last 3 years. Fumbled numerous balls, looked like a lad who hadn’t picked up a hurl in ages. Butler is another who’s form has dropped.
The squad depth will be even weaker if tj goes and maybe 1 or 2 others.

I’m not sure you can say he’s doing a good job if so many players have not improved under his watch. We coughed up the ball so many times due to hurling errors.
KK have a poor record of late with a numerical advantage. if you don’t use the ball properly the extra man is no good to you.

I dont think playing in Leinster do them much favours. Munster is so competitive that teams are battle hardened and managers learn way more about players and their team in group matches.

Fair enough but replacing Cody is similar to replacing Ferguson or Wenger or bellicheck.

Almost impossible.

For 20 odd years Kilkenny had multiple great playing careers over lapping. There was always going to be a down turn. Replacing great players isn’t easy.

Think lyng has done well enough. I’d be surprised if anybody does much better.

I agree. I’d love lyng managing Galway, though he wouldn’t.

In fairness, there wasn’t much in it either, but I actually agree.
What they should do is put everyone into Munster.
Job done.

What would he offer Galway? I don’t think he has proven anything really as a manager at this level

The provincial round robins came in back in 2018 and it’s no coincidence the last five years have seen so many all Munster All Ireland finals, this is a consequence of the strength of both provincial group stages and the huge tests you are getting in Munster v the paltry Leinster championship , no doubt.

2025 Cork v Tipp
2024 Clare v Cork
2021 Cork v Limerick
2020 Limerick v Waterford

Before this run you’d have to go back to 2013 Clare v Cork and then 1997 Clare v Tipp.

He Cuts an impressive figure from what I’ve seen. Fair enough this is year three and yesterday was their worst defeat.

Finding a better centre back than Richie Reid would improve that team a lot.

I just like him, I always did. He’s done well with the players he has had imho.
Honestly how many would get into the big Munster teams? Not that many. Who would get a game for Limerick? Two or three maybe?
