Kilkenny v Limerick 2019

Two bald men fighting over a comb.

Underwhelming display from Kilkenny which wouldn’t be enough to beat a decent team playing to any kind of reasonable standard. We’re incredibly toothless at the moment up front. A bit better at the back and in midfield but much of that could be contributed to Limericks absolute lack of gameplan. They should have looked to run more at us. There was plenty of space to work with particularly in the first half.

We’ll have to be much better but it really feels like delaying the inevitable. We don’t look good enough to win anything at the moment. We really look like a mix of how we were in 2004/2005 and 2013. In fact in 2005 we stumbled past Limerick in a goal free encounter before imploding to Galway. The right team with the right tactics could really carve us to shit.

Offaly would’ve given either of the these 2 a good go of it today.

KK got on top for a decent period of the 2nd half and their link up play improved greatly but their decision making and execution once the ball passed their own 45 yard line was horrible. I don’t think Colin Fennelly got the ball in his hand once, but most of that was down to the sort of distribution he was receiving.

Limerick were a bit of a shambles in that they didn’t seem to have a clear game plan or structure but when they did get the quick ball into the forwards they got scores off it.

I fear for KK in the next round

Reid was very good???

Dublin is the only team left in the Championship they’d beat

Didn’t see this but my main takeaways from this thread are:

Kilkenny are finished;
Limerick are the future;
Kilkenny won by 3 points reasonably comfortably.

Our quality of distribution was horrific.

:grin::grin:

Galway completely folded against them only 12 months ago. We’ll see what they’re like tomorrow but they’ve had several shots against Kilkenny and have buckled when Kilkenny turned the heat up. Limerick showed more fight tonight than this Galway team ever have against Kilkenny.

Today and against Clare, Nash has been disappointing.

Would be no harm also to drop Cian Lynch for some time, he is very very wasteful with possession. A few nice tricks and skills but more often than not result in the opposition regaining possession.

Galway are still in the championship

Did you work that out all on your own

Ah shhhtop. And you’re not even a Limerick lunatic.

I am very disappointed, they were there for the taking if we had been a little bit smarter, maybe had a little bit more belief. With 10 minutes to go, Kilkenny just seemed to get the scores a little easier. Kilkenny were fairly poor though, pulling forwards out and then just landing the ball on top of Hannon & Richie Mac, made them both into heroes.

In fairness to Richie, he did a good job on Fennelly, shut him down completely. Now the ball in was septic but Richie stick tight to him all day long and swept up well. And it may be easy for a free man like Hannon to look good and he doesn’t particularly like the actual defending side of the game, but he had the aggression and confidence back. Absolutely delighted for him, the one real positive I can take from that is that it looks like he’s enjoying his hurling again.

Forwards didn’t win enough ball, I thought the ball in was a bit better than the Clare game, mostly because Hannon was given so much space. But still some horrific balls from the likes of Casey, who did well defensively, but was the worst of the lot on the ball. Some awful tippy-tappy shite in the forwards too, and a lot of wides.

It was actually a game that would have suited Jim-Bob, lots of congestion and rucks, very little running; he would have revelled in it from the start and did alright when he came on bar a stupid shot. Nash was beaten all ends up by Walsh but I think he should have been moved out to half-forward at that point. Kyle was good first half, quiet second half but Casey did well throughout, some lovely scores. Dowling was beyond woeful in the first half but again, stepped it up in the second, think he scored 2 from play and did work hard.

Kilkenny were never going to let us score a goal in the dying stages, need to hit them early on. Those missed chances in the first half killed us really. Really annoying, because Kilkenny didn’t work as hard as us and played stupid stupid hurling.

Gavin did give them some soft frees. I wouldn’t say it was the losing of the game or anything but there were a few occasions where the Kilkenny forward clearly overcarried and was charging and he’d give them a free. Didn’t give us the same soft ones. Again, that’s annoying.

We gave up a few other handy scores with silly mistakes. I thought we were improved on Clare but Kilkenny, at the same time, didn’t have the attributes to really punish us.

Limerick won’t win anything until they get the right man in charge. And he’s only from over the border. In 3 years time when the Wexford honeymoon is over, it’ll be time for Davy to come in and lead Limerick to glory. JP should throw the kitchen sink at getting him in

2012 Leinster final?

How many from that team are playing tomorrow?

A good few but this is a better team than 2012.
