King Henry of Galway (Part 1) 👑

We will see if he makes any progress next year but I’d be surprised if he has much of an impact. 4 Corofin lads started yesterday and none of them covered themselves in glory. Excellent club footballers and a great club team but intercounty is completely different. Probably harder to produce county players when you come through a club that is so dominant and you aren’t getting the experience of being double marked every day you go out like talented lads at other clubs.
Michael Lundy looks a class footballer at club level but made no impact at county, even going right back to Derek Reilly.

None of the Galway team made any impact. Looked like a team who were happy to be out.

That’s true as well.

Galway seem to have a problem with dominant all Ireland winning club teams assimilating into county set ups .

Joe Brolly says Galway won’t be missed from the Super 8s.

Writing in the Sunday Independent in the wake of last night’s defeat to Mayo, the former Derry star lamented the lack of imagination in Kevin Walsh’s side and is of the opinion that a new manager is needed to tap into the county’s “embarrassment of riches”.

“It is a relief to see Galway gone. Galway teams should not play like Fermanagh and this was a team and manager in its death throes. They played, as we knew they would, with zero imagination,” he said.

"They soloed and hand-passed and ran up blind alleys and by the 46th minute not a single Galway forward had scored from play. The problem was exemplified by the plight of their Corofin contingent.

“These superbly talented, imaginative footballers who light up our screens every March look like pub players in this Galway set-up. Martin Farragher (scoreless) was taken off. Ian Burke (scoreless) was sent off. Liam Silke wasn’t sure what he should be doing, so soloed and hand-passed just like the others. Shane Walsh kicked one lovely long free but that was as good as it got for him. What a waste of good players and what a middle finger up at the traditions of Galway football.”

Brolly added: “It is, in truth, good news for Galway that they are out. Time to start afresh for this great footballing county. The new manager will have an embarrassment of riches to work with. Perhaps (John) Divilly, or (Padraic) Joyce, or even (Stephen) Rochford.”

Who managed Galway footballers the year Tipp sliced them in Croke Park ?

Mullholland.
I think the way to go now is PJ take over with Divily and Rochfort coaching

That was Walsh in 2016, with a lot of the same players as used last night as well.

Who’s pj?

Padraic Joyce

Paraic Joyce
Glass half full is we have top class players who are limited due to a inhibiting system so a new coach has all the tools to bring us to the next level so long as he changes our style. This appears to be what Brolly is suggesting
Glass half empty is we haven’t maybe the players we think we have and they have only gotten to the level they have thanks to playing in KWs system.
Either way we have stagnated badly this year and it’s clear the team is lacking inspiration so a new voice is required and the sooner the better

If Roscommon win the All-Ireland the job is Tessio’s.

Walsh has a year left on his term and I think PJ was being groomed to take over then as he would have had a nice 2 year stint with the U-20s under his belt then. Anther year under KW though might start a civil war in the county so somethings gonna have to give. Tessio will be out of our price range after he wins the All Ireland this year I fear

12 points to 4 early in the 2nd half to beautiful Galway in the u20 Connacht Final against Mayo

16-10 to the good guys in the end. PJs army is on the march

Too many windbags on that team and Sice was a culprit. He got into a jostle against Tipp in 2016 and didn’t want to know after. O’Donnell and Bradshaw are similar. There’s no cut in them. There’s cut in the ginger lads and the Baysht but they lack composure.

4 corofin lads on Galway under 20 team and can’t make corofin team. That’s crazy, be back boning any normal club team.

The Galway U-20 Footballers are progressing nicely under PĂĄdraic Joyce

Is Michael Meehan involved with any of the underage teams at all?
