King Henry of Galway (Part 1) 👑

What’s the 1.2 million they are talking about then??

No mention of SuperChip man.

They must have been scratching their holes all year

The county’s fundraising income collapsed in 2019, falling from €860k, in 2018, to €144k this year.

Also this paragraph is hilarious

“We are using creditors money to fund Galway GAA. We should be paying people every 30 days, we are probably paying them every 90 days, just to survive. We are running a tight ship. Cash is an issue, but we will get there,” said Burke.

The treasurer said the continued negative publicity regarding the state of the county’s finances is “really rubbish”. Kearney said their financial systems was the envy of other counties.

€140k spend on legal and professional fees in 2019 in no way relates to an employee of Croke Park who was working for Galway GAA.*

The county’s accounts for 2019 show a deficit of €261k

“Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but everybody isn’t entitled to their own facts.”

No, just you Pat.

Spend 140k on covering your ass and blame the deficit on the players.

You’d need your head examined to willingly get involved in a GAA supporter’s club / fundraising type role in the current climate. Galway, Mayo, Cork are just a few of the counties whose financial affairs are being argued about in public. Not to mention the backdrop of the FAI controversy too. Lads are demanding accountability and transparency so you really need to trust the ultimate decision makers as to where the funds are going. A lot of shapes are being thrown in public.

I can’t understand why other counties just don’t find themselves a JP? :man_shrugging:

Every County Board in Ireland needs to be wound up and rebuilt on a socialist basis.

Is it now time to let hurling in Galway die?

Wexford/Cairde Loch Garman are a beacon of accountability and successful fundraising

The driver for all this partly has been the increasingly outlandish sums of money deemed necessary to “run a County set up”
It’s frankly staggering the sums being spent.
God be with the days that players played for the pride of it only, coaches coached for the pride of it, and associated hanger on professionals like doctors, physios, “sports scientists”, nutritionists, psychologists, and life coaches and the like have of their time and expertise for free, other than the pleasure of being involved, a couple of tickets, and a thankyou at the Christmas party like it was back in the glory days of the 80’s and 90’s.
Fcuking snowflakes won’t get out of the bed now without sending an invoice.
Anyone who donates to a county panel has a bit of want in them.

If their local club were doing a bit of fundraising they’d do the short arms, long pockets routine

When you see them win an All Ireland, you really don’t care what it cost

It’s the public, the supporters, who demand this level of professionalism from the players though. Sure the likes of Seanie O 'Leary would be mocked high up and low down if he hurled today, look at the abuse a few ‘strongly built’ lads have put up with in recent times. If a lad has a rep for being a drinker/messer supporters want him gone off the panel. The public have demanded it

This simply isn’t true. Like I said, I’d rather win junior c league playing club than watch the county win the all Ireland.

Well I’d disagree. Each to their own but watching Limerick win the All Ireland was something I never thought I’d see and I’d rank it as one of the best days of my life.
