All Irelands Champions Portumna bagan the defence of their title to day with a 10 point win over 1980 champs Castlegar, 1-28 to 1-18
The surprise of the first round was Tommy Larkins beating 2013 champs St Thomas 2-15 to 0-19
Wins too for
Killimordaly over 92 champs Kiltormer,
Loughrea over Gort,
Ardrahan over Pearces,
Beagh over Craughwell,
TAD over Turlock,
00 and 01 Champs Athenry over Mellows
Mullagh over 2011 champs Clarinbridge
Carnmore and 93 + 94 champs Sarsfields finished level.
The winners proceed to the group stages and the losers get a 2nd chance to make it in, lose again though and their fucked
Great win for Larkins, lapsed poster @Titch will be in some hape tonight.
Portumna were supposedly frightening at times tonight but then went to sleep mid second half and allowed Cashel get a bit too close for comfortā¦ before killing them off for good late in the game.
Kinvara play Beagh next weekend. Beagh will be hard beat.
Canning played midfieldā¦looked as fit as he did last weekā¦
Didnāt do much from playā¦had a few wides from placed balls as well as a few from playā¦
Any match report for these games. There should be a few cracking draws in the second round. Mellows would probably favourites to go down based on their performances in the last two years.
Not senior but was at Moycullen vs Kilbeacanty in Clarinbridge on Saturday in the Intermediate championship. Moycullen won by 4. Probably worth it but were very reliant on their free taker Eanna Noone, he must have got about 1-11 including 3 sideline cuts. Kilbeacanty gave it everything but are just lacking a bit skill. Certainly donāt lack for effort. Great to see Shane Donohue play well. got himself 1-1 and looked sharp. Donāt think either will be in the running to win it out but a good game all the same. Also must commend Galway Gaa on their programme. 4 euro and it lists every player for each club in senior and intermediate and by the looks of it they have to play to their number on that programme. Programme will do you for the year as well. No fear Limerick Gaa would ever do anything as sensible as thatā¦
Healy confirmed out for the season, cruciate. Cuntish for him heād looked to have some of his pep back during the league would have been a fine squad option this year. Should mean more opportunity for the likes of Cathal Mannion and Jason Flynn to step up at least, Davy Glennon too
Feel sorry for the poor cuntā¦ was absolutely flying it for club and seemed to have improved his county game too though I still wasnt convinced heād come good at the business end of it.
Anywayā¦ it will give a chance to one of the young guns to stand up. Donnellan is making a late burst for contention in 2014 team too by all accounts.
I am still not sure what Curley is bringing to the management teamā¦ do you know what he is bringing to the table @Lazarus ?
Davy glennon should be third midfield option this year. Best I ever saw him play was the minor final 09 when he lorded it from midfield in the second half. Awful for Niall Healy. Speedy recovery I hope. I wish him well.

No mate. Hadnāt really thought about it. Maybe heās the brains behind moving Canning to full back for the Laois match
