I didnât watch it all, the music was great at the start,
I found it weird that Daithi Regan expressed surprise that Pilkington even hung out with fellas who âdidnât play hurling at allâ
He was some bit of stuff, that Offaly team were the team of the 90âs, Whelahan, Pilkington, Dooleyâs, Troy, Hanamy, Martin, Kinahan all fantastic hurlers
Wristy bastards to a man, Duignan and Regan probably the biggest mullockers of the lot, ironically enough given they now spend their days telling everyone else how to hurl. I wonder if that amuses the rest of them.
2 All Irelands, one of them the greatest hurling thievery ever, puts them up there with the current Limerick team of Loughnaneâs Clare side. They were good but if they werenât Offaly they wouldnt be rated as highly as they are.
Thievery is rubbish. They completed a stunning finish against us in 1994 to win it. It broke our hearts yes, but it was a stunning comeback and they deserved their All Ireland.
Iâd have relations from there, the cunts had some crack over the course of 10-15 years between the footballers and hurlers. And they knew how to enjoy it too, pucks pints and slobbering, the mecca of any muldoon. They lived the GAA bogger dream. Where would you see the like of it, a fella carrying around an inflatable shark and all the thick cunts gathering around him for an auld showldering contest and they full of pints. And with being such a small county they had a real attachment to the players. This meant more.
Offaly in general are the greatest story in the GAA. No tradition to speak of in either sport and won multiple all irelands and all stars in both sports in a 30 year period off a tiny playing population. And then just went to shite again.
Their success was the outlier. They just reverted to the mean. They still shouldnt be that shite, and will start to turn it around, but its hard to see a story like that ever happen again given the level of professionalism some counties have taken it to.
A truly great side doesnt win only two All Irelands. The 98 winning side was surely as poor a All Ireland winner as theres been. BW too sick to play in defence ends up winning MOTM tells you about the state of KK at the time. That side needed the greatest stroke of luck going with Jimmy Cooney as well. All in all they probably over achieved winning two imo.
