Laois GAA- bunch of hicks turning on eachother

Jp and his brother singly handily funded the academy.

Serious rewriting of history going on here. There is no correlation between heaps of cash to put into your structures and success… None at all sure… That’s why most successful sports orgs operate on a shoestring by choice… Yes sir

It’s very unfair to JP to try and downplay his role in reshaping Limerick hurling. Eaten bread is soon forgotten.

JP doesn’t like being put up on a pedestal. He’s a very humble man.

:pint:

We have the country positively seething, it seems. It’s beautiful.

JP McManus paid Cian Lynch 50k when he was 14 to work on his first touch

You just have to look at the ridiculous number of above average club hurlers in limerick now under the age of 25. That’s where you see the real benefit of the academy.

JP needs to start paying refs. That last fucker was hell bent on us not winning.

He’s a saint. A fierce nice man who has a great love for Limerick and Limerickness. I disagree vehemently with his horsey horse tendencies though.

Okay guys, Dalo is a gent and a great hurling man and a good team manager. But he wasn’t suited to the academy role.
JPs money didn’t win us anything, but the power it gave him with the county board allowed him to overhaul the structures and put in place a more professional board. The money didn’t do that but his voice behind the changes certainly helped.
The academy etc was something in train anyway, we were at a very low ebb and it was recognised something had to change, his men on the board got that over line a bit easier than it might have been otherwise.
Very little of the underage stuff is costing massive money and anyone can do it.
The senior stuff is driven by Kiely and Kinnerk who by a quirk of fate happened to be the right men at the right time taking over a one off crop that came through together.
However, having JPs money sloshing around allows them to add the extra couple of percent that can make all the difference.
There ye go now. A bit of truth in everything.

Jerry Wallace was a key man. Only for donal o Grady bringing him into the limerick gaa fold one wonders where we would be now. He done savage work in the early days of the academy.

Jps money was huge but he also got decent bang for his buck because of it being based in U.L which is a world class facility.

For once I agree with you. Jerry was a key figure in his first tenure and set high standards. Man was a lunatic and not motivated by money at all, but obviously he was paid for the his expenses etc. Unfortunately his second term didn’t go as well

You pointing out the use of UL is correct too, but it also backs up the point that it’s not all about facilities and funds. UL is on Clare’s doorstep too and they use it, Clare Minors were there all last winter, Clare Seniors were there all this winter, it’s not as if they can’t use UL either. Limerick Seniors don’t use UL at all actually, it’s the Academy and U20s that use it, the Seniors base themselves in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale, which isn’t exactly anything to write home about, it pales in comparison to Mallow or Dr. Morris Park for example. I would say Limerick have gotten good at managing their funds well.

When did the Dublin football supporters start following Limerick hurlers? I see the claxon was sounded in the Laois GAA thread of all places.

Remarkable similarities as to how all the money both have hasn’t helped them at all.

Or how professional setups can attract money. Chicken and egg
