Leinster Senior Hurling Championship 2026

Conal Kelly is in Kieran’s.

He makes his aul lad look average.

It’s the worst KK team in recent memory, but it’s also the worst Wexford team. So hard to know

Ah now. Wexford have had a few dingers in the last 21 years.

Wexford 2010 was definitely weaker than 2026.

Another sniper in a Cooper helmet?

I remember Tipp opening our holes in a televised non-event Saturday afternoon qualifier during the FIFA World Cup. Big Stephen Banville got into a grapple with someone & nearly ripped an ear off, if I recall correctly.

Yeah himself and a Fanning fella went at it. It was the early afternoon throw in before Big Diego Maradona’s Argentina lost 4-0 to a rampant Germany in the World Cup quarters. Galway had beaten us by a comfortable double figure margin in Leinster.

2010

Was that a fabled cross code triple header or am I thinking of another year?

While double headers are “exceedingly attractive” or sometimes just plain old attractive, all triple headers are “fabled” and “exceptional value for money”.

I was at one in Thurles in 2014 which encompassed a draw between an ageing Wexford camogie team and a Cork side for whom Paudie Murray was patrolling the sideline in an AI semi-final. A Clare demolition job against Antrim in an U21 semi-final, followed by a 2 point victory for Wexford against Galway in the other semi.

2012 we had a belter.

Tipp v Wexford in Football
Cork v Wexford in Hurling
Limerick v Clare in Hurling

I stayed for every minute of all three games.

I was at that one as well. The day the Wexford football dream died. Tipp reeled off the last 5 points or so to nick it by one.

Was that the end of Jason with Wexford?

The old qualifiers were just fantastic. Proper win or go home games with a novelty feeling to them.

Tipp went on some great journeys in 2012 and 2014 that set us up for 2016.

That’s the one I’m thinking of. I knew there was a Tipp-Wexford football match in there but wasn’t sure which year or what else was on the triple header menu.

I have a recollection of listening to a portable radio and Tom Dempsey saying that it was a young Wexford team and they’d improve as they slumped to defeat against Cork while I attempted to put tomato plants into the ground out the back. Darren “the Dazzler” McCurry made his grand entrance to the inter-county scene the same day in a live Newstalk 106FM match where Tyrone trounced Roscommon, as they frequently did.

2012 was a great summer. Perhaps the last great summer, maybe the second last.

Yeah that was Jason Ryan’s last day in charge of Wexford. They’d let Dublin off the hook massively in a Leinster semi-final a week or two previous. Antrim knocked Galway out of the football championship the same day. PJ’s last game for Galway.

There is a long and distinguished history of Wexford/Dublin coming to Thurles for Qualifiers/Quarter Finals against Munster opposition and bowing out meekly.

Wexford beating Cork in 2016 the only exception that comes to mind.

Dublin have beaten Limerick there a couple of times, as we usually do.

The thing about a triple header is it’s like spotting a hard to spot animal. You tend to remember them. People still remember the fabled Leinster football triple header of 2003 at Croke Park.

It’s like spotting a red squirrel, or an urban fox in daylight. A few months ago one cold and frosty morning in the depths of winter I was alerted to the presence of an urban fox in the driveway of the house directly across the street. I came out to look, shut one eye and there it was, staring across right at us. In my mind I called the fox “Triple Header”. Then it disappeared behind the hedge and ran, or more likely hobbled away. In retrospect I have a feeling the poor animal had an injured leg.

Pretty sure we’d another cross code Triple Header in 2015 when Tipp hammered Louth or someone in Football before Dublin beat Limerick and Cork edged out Clare in Hurling.

I wasnt there that day though.

I was at that one too. Think Chinner was arsing around playing bogball under Ryan that day too.

I was at the Dublin-Limerick hurling part of this but have no recollection whatsoever of the football part, though Wikipedia says it did happen.

Despite meaning to stick around for the Clare v Cork hurling part I don’t have much recollection of it either as I was part of a group of Dublin supporters who got talking to two Limerick supporters in the bar area at the back of the Killinan end in the interval between the two games. The Limerick supporters produced a package and proceeded to make some interesting looking cigarettes with the contents of the package and shared them around. I suddenly and immediately lost interest in the Clare v Cork game and I think me and the two other Dublin people spent the second half of that game looking at the ground giggling in a pub in a housing area halfway between the stadium and the railway station.

I believe this tale may have been expanded on elsewhere on this forum and may have involved reading an Irish Times aloud in a fake Kevin Myers accent.
