First time I’ve actually seen it.Seamus Quinn was a unreal that day.McHugh in goals was a liability.McGlynn wasted a lot of chances. When we weathered the early onslaught and went 0-03 0-01 I actually thought we could do it but the Dubs were much quicker to everything than us.Dessie and Charlie destroyed us.
A pretty good summation that.
Fergal Reynolds
To their eternal credit they battled to the end against a vastly superior side. Didn’t we score 1-03 in the last few minutes. Can’t ask for more but the Dubs were in the hotel mentally by then. A super, super week on the run-in. An aunt of mine was buried on the Friday to great sighs of relief. She was off topic by 3pm on the Friday God be good to her. Epic portering home and away.
I was too young to be drinking.I went on a coach organised by The Market Bar and I remember on the way home we were 100% sure we’d be back the next August.
Should have been too. For once the hope wasn’t misplaced.
Well worthy of his position on the list. Would have been on Connacht selections for 5/6 years in the very early 70’s. Midfield or wing forward his preferred position. A solid performer.
Incredibly, in the selection process at the turn of the century for chosen ones he didn’t as much as get a nomination in either position. I expressed my dissatisfaction rather forcefully to John Connolly about 6 months after that threatened to spill over…
A correct call IMO.
He’s Donal’s uncle I believe.
I know some of his family but never realised their old lad was as a highly thought of a footballer as he is.
Ben’s brother John Eddie was an even better performer. He joined the priesthood and was out foreign for his lifetime. Decent people.
I suppose it’s better than the usual drink excuse.

Presumably you’re placing reliance on positions there?
As in Paddy Maguire is best at corner back and not centre back?
It’s the age old problems with these lists. Pick by position or try to get all the best players in.
