An epic performance from Mickey Quinn considering he was 35/36 at that stage. He’d carried the Willies to a senior title nearly 20 years earlier.
Like him or not he’s given the club and county outstanding service.
He was a fantastic footballer.
Dirty - like all of the Aughawillan team of the day but at least he had football in him.
Erm……I find myself nodding in agreement with this but……
He wasn’t the worst of them. Footage cuts to Jerome or any of the Flanagans……Ouch!
I may have mentioned before that through some quirk of the championship we ended up playing them in the first round one year in the early to mid 90s.
Needless to say they hammered us but we had one lad who would run all day even when we were getting beaten.
Anyway, the Aughawillan lads decided that they had enough of running after this young lad so they bursted him in a challenge. The usual ‘launch into him from both sides while he’s running’ type tackle. I heard after that it was mainly the aforementioned Jerome Quinn and Gerry Flanagan involved but that changed to Mickey Quinn being the main protagonist.
Big night at HQ as Aughavas man Mike Carty (Rosie O’Grady’s) is inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Nice picture from the event, sponsor and wife looking the finest.
He’s used to own The Rambling House in Kathona Ave and Rory Dolan’s on McLean.Wasnt he funding Mickey Moran’s tenure at the time.
Who was the other Leitrim publican who owns the Mean Fiddler’s, Frankie …
He was that but he’s been top notch to exiles in terms of work and finding their feet. A big supporter of the county financially when it wasn’t broadcast or as altruistic as it has become. I’m expecting Frankie Dwyer to achieve this illustrious award in the coming years. Frankie will be standing on a beer crate for the presentation unless Martin McHugh is doing the honours.
Dwyer is right.Manys the time he stood me a drink.
Frankie is sound, a bit of a brush with authority a few years ago but he quickly shook it off and found another paw to grease .
Meanwhile Seamus Clarke was enjoying himself last night. A top lad.
He’s a Kiltubrid man that owns The Playwright near Times Square?
Indeed it is - there are 3 Playwrights along with about 15 others. He owned Jack Dempseys but I’m not sure he still does. For a small buck from Kiltubrid he survived and thrived. A mighty man to return a favour

Frankie’s well thought of over there.
Difficult evening for @flutehook crowd…. Registered 0-02 at home to a red&black outfit in scintillating form. 2-14 to 0-02. Ruh huh……
I was at a wedding in Wales over the weekend so didn’t get to see our latest drubbing (un)fortunately. Whatever about our paltry 0-2 scored, our defence seems to have tightened up since letting 4 goals in against Drumableedinghair the previous outing.
Hopefully we’ll have everyone fit, home etc. for the Championship and win the 2 games necessary to stay up!
The final part of your post is the sentiment affecting 6 of the senior clubs, win 2 and we’ll survive and proceed immediately to see what 2 we might beat on a good day. It’s between the 4 town teams with Mohill the jolly at 6/4.
Ok people having talked to one of our senior players in town earlier can we have our predictions for the Senior winners
I’m going with
Mohill
Keith Beirne alone would put them favourites.
If they can keep Jordan Reynolds fit as well then that should nail it for them.
Connacht Gold SFC Round 1 (WE 12/13 August)
St Patrick’s Dromahair v Ballinamore Sean O Heslin’s
St. Mary’s Kiltoghert v Mohill
Melvin Gaels v Gortletteragh
Glencar/Manorhamilton v Leitrim Gaels
Fenagh St Caillin’s v Aughawillan
So there we have it, the opening round. The clash of the big two townies will put pressure on one of them.
We struggled past the Neddies in the D2 league final tonight, we’re woeful and will be hard pressed to stave off the Willie’s in the opener. We’ll need to win two at least to avoid a relegation battle. Predictions:
SoH, Mohill, Kinlough, Leitrim Gaels and Fenagh.
