The timing seems strange/rushed but the astute political watchers on here had in recent months started passing comments on a potential FG leadership contest. I remember someone pointing out how Harris, who was usually quick to stick his oar in, was keeping his head down and staying out of any scandals.
He disappeared in the run up to the referendum when normally you would have to hear his nails on a blackboard voice constantly on the airwaves.

I am not sure why people have so much aggro against Simon Harris.
He was thrown into health when he was only a gasun probably as a stroke by Leo for Harris supporting Coveney in the leadership election.
Yeah health was a shitshow but it has been for as long as I can remember. In comparison to the current schnide that’s in there he was at least reasonable to deal with by all accounts.
He comes across as reasonable and open minded when interviewed I feel. He lives with an illness as well.
